Shipping Rule for Multiple Items
I have always had free shipping on my items, and just factored it into my prices. However, with postage ever increasing, this year I started something new: I set a rule to say Flat Rate $0, except for USPS postage zones 7 & 8 (well, ebay doesn't exactly give me those zones, but I know which states are the furthest from me and have cost me the most in postage, so I picked those areas from the list). I didn't want to make this new rule too drastic (yet), so I have the Flat Rate set at $1 for those areas. And it works! BUT - as soon as someone bought a quantity of 4 of the same item (which I have incentivized with a multiple-item discount), they paid $4.00 in shipping, and I didn't mean for that to happen. Since then, I've been trying to adjust my rule (using Combined Shipping). I tried Flat Rate $1, with each additional item at 50%. Didn't work. I changed it to each additional item $0.50. Still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

·5 months ago@snomogo_3 I am assuming you set up shipping tables. I did that, too, with the last postal rate hike and it is working well. A pain to set up when you have multiple policies.
What I do is set up shipping discounts. In the upper left of the screen, click on your name and then Account Settings. Click on Shipping Preferences, then click on Edit under the Combined shipping rules section. From there you can edit Flat Shipping rule. From there you will be able to set up rules. There are several ways you can set up these rules. Pick what you feel will work best for you. If you find it doesn't, you can always change it.
Because I have multiple shipping policies based on item weight and size and package, I have a half-dozen or so rules. Lighter items will get a larger discount, with heavier items only receiving a 10% discount.

OP5 months agoThank you! I think I was missing a step, because I set up a Combined Shipping Rule, but it somehow wasn't linking to my Flat Shipping Rule. I think I have them connected now (I have to wait and see if anyone from one of the furthest zones buys multiple now to know if it works for sure - but I think it will!)

OP5 months agoWell, it didn't work. It's still charging the full flat rate for each item (I know my shipping is low, but I've always paid the entire shipping before, so this is just a toe in the water to see how this impacts my sales. I would go higher, but I want to get the combined shipping thing right first).
So, this customer bought 4 of an item, and I thought I had it set up to go 50% on each additional item, which would have come out to $2.50. But it's still charging $4.00 ($1 each). I have it set up like this:
