Shipping prices
My question is I have been eyeing an item for some time the item is $10 and shipping this small item is $9.95. Ok I just received an email with an offer from sender 20% off so I was going to purchase and I noticed the item $8 and the shipping is now $11.95 how is this possible? Not to mention I've had items shipped to me from various far states for around $5. The price of the item I didn't have a problem with it was the double in shipping the reason I keep thinking about it.

·6 months agoIf you think the item is worth $19.95 + tax, then buy it. If not, then don't buy it.

·6 months agoDepending upon how long you have been eyeing this item, you may have run into a genuine increase in postage. The USPS raised prices in some categories, effective in early January.

The shipping charge went from $9.95 to $11.95 -- that is not "double."
And you need to factor in the recent jump in gasoline prices as well.

·6 months agoThe above responses are possible and logical. However, to me, this sounds like a simple case of the seller trying to bamboozle you. How bad do you want it?

·6 months agoI agree. This has nothing to do with the cost of Shipping going up. This is just a seller playing sillybuggers with the pricing, essentially moving two bucks from the item price to the Shipping cost by increasing the Shipping charge, then using the Send Offer option with a 20% discount. The total price to be paid doesn't change, but this will look like a good deal to those prospective buyers who haven't been paying enough attention to the listing in the past.

Cost of shipping has gone up. Shipping cost goes by weight, dimension and location. The cost to ship an item from state to state is different from coast to coast.

The lowest USPS Ground Advantage price is $7.30 retail at the post office.
There have been many, many USPS price increases over the past few years.

You say you've been eyeing an item "for some time." You don't specify how long "some time" is but the post office has been increasing prices 2-3 times a year with additional charges during the holiday season.
Another consideration is that some sellers can charge less for shipping but they increase the price of the item to compensate for their loss on the shipping charge.
Keep in mind that the price of shipping isn't necessarily commensurate with the price of the item. An inexpensive item can be heavy and postage can cost more than the item.
Shipping prices even of the same weight item can also vary based on which zone it's being delivered and if the delivery is in a rural area.
This isn't meant to be critical of you but many members who don't sell and ship packages have little or no knowledge of shipping prices or the cost of materials - boxes, bubble mailers, packing tape, printers, ink, gas for travel to the post office, etc. There's way more involved than putting a stamp on a letter!
The bottom line is that you should consider how much you want the item, if there are other sellers with that same item at better prices and the total amount you are paying. If the item you want is the only one on ebay, the seller has the upper hand and if you want it badly enough, you pay more for it.
Keep in mind that for the following items, your total payment would be exactly the same:
1. item price $10 + shipping $10 = $20
2. item price $15 + shipping $5 = $20
3. item price $20 + free shipping = $20
4. item price $18 + $2 shipping = $20

USPS raised their prices back in January.
I could ship a small 4 ounce package at Christmas for "around $5-$6"...today, that same package is $7.50.
Is it possible the seller was originally shipping "ground advantage" and is now shipping "flat rate priority?"
$10 + $9.95 = $19.95
$8 + $11.95 = $19.95
Bottom line....if you don't like the final price...purchase from another seller.

Ebay has lots of sellers to pick from, you don't need to buy from anyone who you feel is being unfair. Choose wisely.
