Shipping Options for Blank VHS Tapes
I have some brand new VHS tapes that have never been opened nor used and I am going to sell them on Ebay. However, I noticed that USPS Media Mail is not listed among the shipping options. When I check the USPS website for permitted products using Media Mail, it looks like VHS tapes are allowed. Anyone else encounter this issue and figure out how to get Media Mail as an option on their selling listing?

·3 weeks agoYou can't send blank tapes media mail... if they had just a few seconds of something on them, they'd qualify.
Unless they are expensive, high grade tapes or rare collectible brands/packages or obscure formats like S-VHS, it usually costs more to ship blank VHS than they are worth sadly.

If you are selling Video tapes that have not been recorded on, even if your tapes are sealed the picture and sound quality may not be good anymore. Unused video tapes break down over time causing images to be fuzzy or washed out, and the sound to be muffled, full of static or to have breaks in it. If they were stored in a climate controlled space or room they may be OK. However, if where they were stored was subjected to temperature and/or humidity changes, The magnetic coating and plastic base weaken as they age causing issues with images and sound quality. The same issues may occur with prerecorded tapes of movies or TV shows.
Even if the tapes were stored in a climate controlled environment the buyer's player or camera's recording/playback head may have a build up of materials from previous use that degrade it's recording or play back ability which they may not know about, and you will be blamed for it.

·3 weeks agoYou would have to record something on them. Does not have to be much. Avoid copyrighted movies and such.

·3 weeks agoBlank tapes have no media on them so they don't qualify for Media Mail.

·3 weeks agoBLANK does not qualify (e.g., CD's, VHS, DVD's, etc). You have to consider the content as qualifying...Movies/Films, Music, etc are actually the "Media", not necessarily the physical item.
