Shipping label is higher than buyer paid & no sales tax was charged
I sold an item, already have my setting to give buyers my shipping label discount. Amount buyer paid is lower then the shipping label cost and ebay also did not charge sales tax to buyer even though their state is included to collect sales tax from. Thanks for any suggestions.

Example: The boots sold show a shipping charge to your zip code lower than any USPS notice 123 charge for an item at the 1 pound rate and surely, they exceed that weight

·1 year agoeBay's discounted postage rates can be significantly lower than the published Commercial prices, especially for Cubic rates.

·1 year agoI don't offer the discounted price when charging for shipping. But I also have many items where I use free shipping and I calculate that into the item's pricing when listing said item.
By charging the retail rate, you are covering your butt, and have a cushion in case the actual shipping costs are more than you expected. If the amount is a huge difference in your favor, you can always refund that difference, or a portion of it, if you want.
I do this occasionally when what eBay charges the buyer and what I pay is exuberantly different. And it makes you look like a good seller to the buyer.

Assuming your calculated shipping is set correctly, YOU WILL NEVER receive enough money to cover shipping costs if buyer pays the same as your actual shipping charge.
While eBay encourages sellers to pass along any shipping discounts, eBay is still going to take their cut of regular fees and Ad Fees out of the money the buyer is paying you for shipping.
If your goal is to make a profit, you will need to analyze the numbers yourself. Your item price plus shipping after eBay fees, shipping and other costs needs to give you the profit you need. That is true if you keep your shipping discount, give your shipping discount to your buyers or offer free shipping.

·1 year agoI can think of a couple reasons this can happen. Already mentioned is a difference between what package info you entered when you listed being different from what you entered when you bought the label. It can also happen if you sent them an invoice and they entered a different location as the ship to address when they paid.
It's not a great thing to have happen, especially because you are already eating part of each label by not charging your buyers retail.

·1 year agoEven when a buyer lives in a state that has a sales tax, they might not be charged any sales tax if they are exempt (such as a charity or reseller), or if the item is in a category which the state exempts from the sales tax. For instance, my state doesn't charge sales tax on food or on clothing items up to $175. As noted in the other post, eBay sellers don't have to think about sales tax since it's eBay's responsibility to collect and remit.
If the shipping label cost was different than the price that the buyer was charged, there must be some mis-match in one of the inputs that determine label price: package weight or dimensions, service chosen, or one of the ZIP Codes.
Also there is a rate change that goes into effect tomorrow so that could affect the cost of a label with a ship date of September 16 or later. Here's the announcement about it; apparently it's USPS's way of imposing a surcharge on rural locations; over 17,000 ZIP Codes are affected.

·1 year agoWell, the sales tax is not your problem, it is up to eBay to take care of it.
As for the label, do you enter your weight and dimensions into your listing? Did you miscalculate and the item weighed more. It's actually a moot point because you just have to go ahead and pay for the label and ship the item.
