Carriers often require the item for inspection to ensure it was packed appropriately before they pay out. Ask the buyer to hold on to the item and all packaging so they can turn it over to the carrier upon request.
If the buyer filed a return request you will have to resolve that without waiting for the carrier to make a decisionn.
