Shipping in a liquor box
I know there have been threads on this at times but was unable to dig any up. Is it okay by policies? I know some receivers might find it offensive. I got a neat item today and tested it, I'd like to list it but don't have the right box. But I'm walking by the liquor store tonight and they always have a ton outside so I'm sure I can find the best size I need. Of course I'm hoping to find a box without a booze brand on it, or (best) pretty blank. But I was just wondering what opinions are. Thanks~

·4 months agoIf you can't find anything besides this liquor box, get some brown Kraft paper made for packaging and wrap the entire box with this paper. It will also look more professional than a spray painted box or one with tape all over it. Some buyers are very sensitive to packaging and may not appreciate that this liquor box is "perfect".

·4 months agoThis is not a good idea, sorry. Paper can get torn too easily and is not recommended.

·4 months agoWould need to be completely covered up. Btw, when we fold a box inside out, we no longer are shipping a valid container that meets any shipping spec at all, so if any damages at all you have no valid claim if the carrier calls it out.

·4 months agoIt is not. You can certainly reuse an undamaged box inside-out. All you are doing is reversing the folds and reattaching the side seam (though I would definitely recommend Elmer's Glue when putting the side seam back together as the factory did it and not just tape).
I put a dictionary (remember those?) over the box seam for a few hours as the seam dries flat, and put a flat plastic bag above and below the seam area so that any excess glue does not accidentally glue the flap area to the dictionary or to the opposite side of the box.
I reuse boxes like this all the time. It puts a clean blank surface on the outside regardless of what was originally printed all over it.

·4 months agoA couple years ago I bought some items from a seller, on another platform from Missouri. She shipped them in beer boxes, they were flagged at the Post Office in Missouri immediately . For some reason they were held for a week or so before notifying her that this couldn't be done. So, she had to go pick them up, take them home, unpack, repack, and get them back to the post office. Caused a significant delay in my recieving it, and alot of confusion because for a week, no one knew the wearabouts of this package.
So don't do it!! I wonder if it is actually in the postal regulations somewhere. Definitely not allowed!
But, there are plenty of free boxes out there. I rarely ship in new boxes. Be sure to cross out any bar codes that may be printed on the outside of a used box. We don't need to cause any more confusion for our friends at the Post Office. They have enough of that already.

·4 months agoNot just alcohol, but any packaging marked with hazardous or restricted materials needs to be covered up somehow. At least that's what the big sign at the post office says 😉

As mentioned upthread, turning the box inside out is the way to go.

·4 months agoCover the markings with tape or spray paint. They make a carton color spray for that purpose too.
