Shipping Bobbleheads

I have bought several bobbleheads on eBay and would like to offer a suggestion. In the course of receiving the items, several of the bobbleheads have come chipped, cracked or broken. This is such displeasing as I will not buy another bobblehead on eBay. Please take the time to carefully wrap and secure any appendage, such as a throwing arm or bat. Especially consider wrapping a collar around the neck of the figure. A little extra care goes a long way. Thank you!

·8 months agoThose require the fitted packing to be shipped undamaged. They can be wrapped in bubble wrap tight enough to keep the head from moving. But it's a turkey shoot if they arrive unbroken.

·8 months agoThe sellers who are unaware of how to properly package those are also unlikely to be hanging out here on these forums, as they’re either inexperienced or don’t care. All you can do is try to vet your sellers carefully, or as you said, if shipping them is a concern, buy them in person (though of course that severely limits your options).

You didn't say but I hope you returned them?

·8 months agoIf they are loose, they should be wrapped so the head doesn't move. I have ordered a few non-funko bobbles and they have been in their original packaging so arrived safely; the sellers made sure they were padded well around the package. I did get a funko a few years ago that was in its box, but was just stuck in a yellow paper envelope, not even a padded one, and crammed into the mailbox. Needless to say, it was a mess. Bottom line, people should pack it up like they'd like to receive it.

·8 months agoI've only shipped a few bobbleheads in the past but the way I wrapped them was to wrap bubblewrap around them and then put them head first in a (new) disposable cup (I always have paper coffee cups and styrofoam cups on hand) and tape it so it doesn't fall out of the cup. I've done other smaller breakable items this way also and everything arrived just fine.

·8 months agoI apologize about my post, but since this thread is about proper packing I just have to ask if anyone remembers the basket lady? She posted to offer her packing method to others as a helpful hint, but it wasn’t received very well. She placed her sold items in baskets, wrapped in paper I believe and labeled that. If she still does that, I bet figuring the dimensional postage is fun.ðŸ¤

·8 months agoI don't have any bobble heads so my questions can be ignorant.
How are these things shipped in the first place, like when they are brand new?
Also can the head be removed temporarily for shipping purposes then reattached?

Brand new, they're shipped in a form-fitting 2-piece Styrofoam 'package' that pulls out of a fitted cardboard box. Usually, there is a small crescent of Styrofoam beside the bobbly head, too.
No... the bobble's head has to stay on the attached 'spring' that makes it bobble.
At least that's how the ones I get at Nashville Preds Hockey are packaged. 😉

Duh... I reboxed my Filip Forsberg (and his dandy handlebar mustache) to show you how mine have come.

·8 months agoThat is really a good question. I have shipped a few new bobble bodies and they are packaged securely in a styrofoam cutout so they cannot move. The head cannot be disassembled but must be packaged securely so it cannot wobble while shipping.

·8 months agoThe same techniques as used to pack porcelain figurines work equally well, including double boxing.
Unfortunately, these breakables are usually not sold by sellers who sell any breakable items. So many lack the knowledge and supplies for the task.

·8 months agoI find cut up pool noodles can be used to give some structure to the heads and spring.. Also, double boxing isn't a bad idea.

I will take the appropriate action.
