Shipping Adjustments

Hi folks.

I sold and shipped an item and ended up getting a $5.55 cost adjustment from UPS.

I have an accurate scale and carefully measure everything. I always round up the numbers. The item was 23"x6"x3" and weighed 3lbs.

Shipping ended up being over $18 to ship this thing from Pa. to Florida. It was flat rate shipping and I charged $5.99. I know something isn't right and I ended up making $2.63 from a $20 sale.

I know there's little I can do, and I guess I'm venting more than anything, but is there a way to dispute this? I won't since it's not worth my time, but I'd like to know for future reference.

Unfortunately it's correct. Lots of complaints about UPS adjustment charges. I can tell you right off the bat that when you ship something 23" you will charged more. I would suggest using USPS and get costs up front before posting. I just typed that in USPS website and the cost is $19.75 so you would've paid less with an Ebay shipping label through USPS rather than $18 + $5.99 total $23.99 with UPS.

With USPS there is a surcharge for items over 22".

eBay is accurate with their USPS prices with the surcharges as long as it is entered correctly.

Them other two places on eBay, it is more like an introductory price to get you to use them but the real price may come latter once they receive the package.

What are you disputing?

Use the eBay Shipping Calculator to see rates. You need the Zip Codes, package dimensions and weight and the calculation should be pretty close for USPS. I would not purchase UPS or FedEx from eBay because they are not very accurate.

Anytime you create your own Flat Rate you have the pay the difference in the actual cost.
