shipping a $4 small socket
The lowest price on eBay to ship an item that I will put in a small padded envelope the measures 7" X 5" x3/4" and weighs 2oz is over $4. Has anyone found a better way to ship this type of item.

Possibly USPS First Class "nonmachinable," which will probably cost you less than $2.00.
No tracking, however.
Check with your post office, since that option is not available thru eBay.

·2 years agoNon-machinable is for First Class Letter service which has a max 1/4" thickness limit.
To ship one of those sockets, it has to go package service and the least expensive service based on weight is Ground Advantage.

The OP had not advised the width of the socket -- only the width of the envelope that the OP was considering to use.
Some (not all) sockets measure less than 1/4", and obviously could be mailed in a plain, white envelope at nonmachinable rates.

·2 years agoYou just have to look at their listings to see the socket is definitely too big for shipping in a flat.

·2 years agoYou have to ship that item as a package, so there is no option less expensive than Ground Advantage unless your sales volume is high enough to negotiate your own discounts with USPS. Assuming that's not the case, there is unfortunately no lower priced option.
Have you experimented with selling some larger lots?
Those sockets will not qualify for untracked services like a First Class Flat which requires uniform thickness.

·2 years agoYou could probably ship cheaper without tracking, but you wouldn't have any protection if the buyer files an INR..
