Hello! So I have an issue and was wondering if anyone has also experienced something similar. I sold an item. The buyer messaged me telling me to ship it to a different address than the one ebay sent me. I go to shipping label, change the address, print label, drop at post office. I check tracking today, item is going to original address. Ebay automatically changed the address back. Called eBay and they gave me 2 options. 1- I will be protected and not have to provide a refund because item was shipped to address they have on file for the account. 2- new house owners will deny acceptance of the package and return it to me (yeah right). Has anyone else had this issue? What was the outcome?

The buyer left a forwarding address at the old house and the post office will re-direct it.

·3 years agoNever, Never, NEVER change the address the buyer used at purchase. If you do, you will NOT be protected from an item not received claim. Once the item is delivered to the address shown on the payment, you are done. Ebay will back you with any item not received claim. This will NOT stop the buyer from doing a chargeback with their payment method.
If it ever happens again, do NOT change the address, and follow the instructions below:
There are scammers that send messages to sellers pretending to be the actual buyer of an item. They want to try to get the seller to change the address after the sale, hoping the seller never verifies that their ID is the not actual buyer. When a seller does this three things happen: the scammer gets free stuff, the actual buyer gets a refund and the seller gets robbed.
Check the ID that sent the message. If it is NOT your buyer, block them here: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock
If it IS your buyer, tell the buyer that you cannot change the address after payment is made. You will need to cancel the sale using problem with buyer's address, then they can repurchase using the correct address.

·3 years agoIf this happens again, first of all, make sure it is the true buyer requesting this. Then you would have to cancel the transaction (problem with address) and have the buyer purchase again, providing the correct address. This is the only way to do it.

·3 years agoNever change an address for a buyer after the sale. Nine times out of ten it's a scam. If you don't use the address the buyer provided during the checkout process, you lose all seller protection for an "Item Not Received" (INR) claim.
Best case scenario, this item is indeed delivered to the address the buyer provided at checkout. That completes your obligation.
