Shipping
Summary: The discussion is titled "Shipping," but no content or details were provided in any of the posts or responses.
Something I've never struck in 25 years on eBay. I just sold an item to a buyer in Taiwan. Went to my normal "print shipping label" and see this!
"Your Ship-to address contains some errors that need to be fixed before purchasing the label. Please note that you may not be covered by the eBay Seller Protection Policy if the changes you make are substantially different from what the buyer intended. Learn more."
So they want ME to fix the buyer's address - and if I don't, I risk having a big problem if its lost in transit or damaged in some way. I haven't "learned more"
THIS apparently is the offending line:
Address Line 1: * 17F, No. 110, Aly 36, Ln.157, Jing Mao 2nd Rd.
Please only use 40 characters
WHAT DO THEY WANT ME TO CHANGE ?? that's only 38 characters!
if I go back to the buyer he's going to say the same thing!
I could shift "Jing Mao 2nd Rd." to the 2nd address line, but why should I?
Why aren't EBAY liaising direct with the buyer?
This is basically forcing me to cancel the sale......I don't like the way this is heading at all.

·4 months agoBecause you are not changing the address, just making it fit the slightly haphazard eBay form for the shipping label. Different teams of programmers apparently developed the form where the buyer enters and stores his Ship To: address, and the form where you purchase the shipping label for the sale. The buyer's form allowed longer lines to be entered than the shipping form can accommodate.
It's a dumb coding mistake that has gone years without getting repaired, but you can work around the problem by just picking a logical breakpoint (such as a comma) and moving the remainder of the long address to a second line. Remember that you are not changing the delivery address itself, just making it fit.
That message comes from the Khoros software used for this eBay Community forum here, not from eBay itself. It pops up routinely when you either edit material you've quoted (like I am doing here) or copy-and-paste formatted text from someplace else. As the message says, the extra coding has already been fixed, so if your posting still looks the way you want it, just hit Reply again and it will get posted as usual.

·4 months agoSplitting the address line does NOT affect seller protections because you are NOT actually changing the address..
I count 46 characters used btw.

You seem to have 2 choices:
(1). Shift "Jing Mao 2nd Rd." to the second address line, as you had yourself suggested.
(2). Cancel the order, using the excuse "Problem with buyer's address."
If it were me, I would just shift some address information to the 2nd line -- I've done it before, without any repercussions from either eBay or from my buyers.
It seems to be a very minor inconvenience -- just add it to the many similar minor inconveniences which all of us encounter each day, on or off eBay.

OP4 months agoThanks for that my friend but I just encountered the deal-breaker. I had charged the buyer $56 which I thought was pretty hefty......Ebay's shipping label is priced at $98.50......which would leave me owing eBay MONEY on the deal. I figured I'd check with my local USPS office. THEY quoted $126.40 ....for a 9X7X3 inch lightwood box with 3 dvd's in it ?? Obviously shipping overseas and to the far East is not an option any longer. Europe is bad enough!
Thanks anyway!
PS: I was unaware that a "space" is a character! When I think about it though...it DOES take up a character's space.
