Why are shipping shoes with EBay two times the cost of normally shipping that weight and size. With Facebook marketplace, shipping shoes is around $5, with EBay they ask for about $9 ?

NIB Airwalk Women's Sneakers shipped in a Priority Mail Shoebox weighs over 2 lbs and creates a 3 lb label that costs $10.23 to zone 5. Retail is $14.50.

·2 years agoFBM charges flat rates for labels, and a 1-2 lb package through them is a flat $9, goes up if the shoes are heavier. Very few shoes are going to weigh less than 2lb packed. If you're paying $5.75 then you're probably entering the wrong package weight on FBM.
Either way, it's a completely different system, comparing apples and oranges. Small marketplaces like that operate on a different set of rules with different types of shipping.
Through eBay you're looking at shipping based on USPS rates with a commercial discount, and for many Priority rates a discount even higher than USPS commercial rates.
I suggest familiarizing yourself with USPS rates as Jack suggested above.
With eBay you can set up your listings with calculated shipping which will charge buyers the actual ship cost from your location to theirs, but it relies on you entering correct package weight and dimensions in the listing.

OP2 years agoYes I’m definitely learning , I just sold a college text book and didn’t realize the FVF and the ad fee were two different things! In your opinion when is it worth it to pay extra for the add fee ?

·2 years agoUntil you get the ropes down with all the fees and structure I'd say don't use promoted listings at all. Once you have things down then consider those add ons and whether the fee makes sense.

·2 years agoI just weighed my pair of sketchers, they weigh 1 lb. 5 ounces, so they would ship at the 2 lb. rate. This is not post office price, but from Pirate Ship.
Zone 1 Ground Advantage $6.54 Priority $6.77
Zone 8 Ground Advantage $9.29 Priority $13.17
So $5.00 to ship shoes is not in the ballpark.

To know the reason you would have to look at the shipping costs that are published by any carrier.
eBay "asks" for nothing. They display the cost to ship based upon size/weight.
USPS has a quick & easy chart to see costs. Its called notice 123.
As easy as 1-2-3 to see that the only shoes that will ship for $5 would be baby shoes.

If someone from FB is shipping shoes for $5.00 they definitely don’t know the true cost of shipping shoes and just guessing and/or just tossing them into a poly mailer instead of a USPS priority box.
I would rather make my purchase on eBay, at least you have eBays Money Back Guarantee. You don’t get a guarantee on FB.

OP2 years agoIt’s always $5.75 to ship shoes on FB market place. What do you mean “The true cost†, the true cost is what I pay .
I was curious, if that’s just the way it is , Maybe FB has got a deal with UPS and USPS

·2 years agoI think it's because Ebay charges fees on the total cost (including the shipping cost) + cost of shipping is high these days so I'm not sure how anybody is shipping shoes anywhere for $5 ?!

The implication of your message was that the shipping cost for shoes is high because eBay makes money on the shipping cost.
Maybe that wasn't what you meant to say?

OP2 years agoI was curious why Facebook marketplace was so much cheaper, somebody told me to look on the post office website and see what they normally charge, I’m going to do that. I think Facebook has a deal with the post office and UPS and is able to make the shipping cheaper

eBay shows costs based upon what the carrier charges for the service selected. eBay does not set the rates. Has nada to do with eBay fees.
