What is the best way to mail valuable coins or paper money and have it insured?
You can use USPS Registered Mail (you have to purchase that service at the post office) or, as suggested by worldcoinsauctions above, you'll need to find a third party insurer.
Many of the most-used third party insurers (ShipCover, Shipsurance, etc) won't cover coins so make sure you read the fine print.
Money (currency / cash) that is sent through the mail can be insured with the following limits:
For Registered Mail®, cash can be insured up to $50,000. For amounts over $50,000, the full value must be declared but the maximum insured value is $50,000.
For all other mail classes and services not Registered Mail, the maximum indemnity for negotiable items, currency, or bullion is $15.00. Negotiable items are defined as instruments that can be converted to cash without resort to forgery.
If you declare a value for items that are prohibited (e.g., firearms, cash or currency, tobacco products) and they are lost or damaged, you will not be reimbursed.
You will need to pursue the purchase of insurance which differs from declared value on shipments. Or use registered mail, which cannot be purchased through Ebay.

·2 years agoDepends on how valuable. The ANA has an affiliation with an insurance company that will cover expensive coins. You can check their site.
