Sending An Expensive Item To An Empty Lot???
Hi folks.
I've just sold a $1,199 item and when I looked up the address, Google street view shows an empty lot.
The satellite view shows buildings, but the street view shows nothing. Plus, the whole area looks very shady.
Am I allowed to show the address here? I'd love to share.
How would you proceed?
Thanks!

·8 months agoThat doesn't matter. You ship to the address received with the payment, nowhere else, in order to be protected against an Item Not Received dispute. In your case you will also need to add Signature Confirmation, as that's an eBay requirement on a sale of $750 or higher.
What Google StreetView shows is irrelevant (and as others have pointed out, the image may be years out of date). After all, even a scammer (and I see no indication that you have a scammer here) would want to actually receive your item; there is no benefit to giving you a fake or undeliverable address.

·8 months agoMake sure to follow @ryry-jj 's advice to get signature confirmation and to insure.
I think your worry might be the repair you identified in the listing causing a return, but you have made it clear you accept that risk in your listing.

·8 months agoYou are selling a $1200 item...is there a scenario that would not make you nervous? Btw, make sure you have signature confirmation on it, and insure the item

·8 months agoShip it!
It will be returned to you if there is no place as you mentioned.
And sometimes the buyer doesn't ask for a refund.
I never had a buyer request a refund for item returned to me.
I had one go to a gas station, an alley, a field, a car wash, hills and so on.

·8 months agoGoogle Street View images have a date in the bottom right corner. I've seen as much as a 3-year difference moving one step forward or back, but that's usually in a dense city where they update them more often.

OP8 months agoThe buyer got back to me and said there are condos on that site now. He also gave me the option of sending to his business address (which I won't do).
It sounds pretty legit so I'm going to ship it.
Wish me luck!

OP8 months agoOP here.
I messaged the buyer just to verify the address. We'll see what they say.

OP8 months agoSorry, but I gave bad info. It appears that the person has 100% positive feedback (87).
Something still feels funky about this.

OP8 months agoBTW, the buyer has ONE purchase in his history and it's for my item.

Having been a seller for over 30 years, I can say that I have no "sixth sense" about selling an item to an empty parking lot. Yet there are building there from another perspective. My guess is irrelevant, but if the buyer has paid for it...the item is of a nature that is not commonly scammed, I would ship it.
In all honesty, I would ship almost anything and deal with the consequences, but I have a loose screw somewhere. (plus I would go after a scammer with other legal means besides an ebay scolding)
