Selling Apple studio displays could use some advice on packaging.
I have 2 apple Studio Displays I’m gonna try to sell. I have the original box but don’t have the sticker that came on the display to protect it I also don’t have the dust cover. Wondering if I could ship it without or is it worth getting a screen protector or some other type of cover on amazon or something?
Was also gonna put a little bubble wrap around the display. When it comes to the box I found a box that would fit the display and original box and I could put about an inch of either bubble wrap or packing peanuts not sure what would be better.

·5 months agoI say it in the listing. And I remind them that they won't have to pay sales tax as part of this private transaction, because unlike eBay, I'm not a marketplace facilitator.

·5 months agoI won't accept a reversible payment for an in-person pickup, no matter what eBay says. It's physical cash, Zelle, or Venmo. Or nothing. eBay just doesn't protect a seller sufficiently in the case of a chargeback.

OP5 months agoHow do you go about doing that. Say it in the listing or once the item is purchased? If they want to go through eBay pay you just cancel the order and get the ding on your account?

·5 months agoYes, if you sell it on eBay with local pickup, they can both try and scam you via eBay, and if that fails with a chargeback. Recording serial numbers and recording the item working will not protect you from a scam, unfortunately. eBay and their credit card company won't use it as evidence.
A 2022 one is a high fraud risk. Sell it locally, meet at a police station if you can. Trust us. It isn't worth the risk.
(And if you must ship, have UPS or FedEx pack it, you don't want that shipping liability.)

·5 months agoSelling something for local pickup with payment in cash is about the easiest way to sell something, but of course it depends on where you live. I live in NYC where it's perfectly safe to have someone come by and pick something up. The buyers appreciate not having to pay sales tax for a private, in person, cash sale.

OP5 months agoWhen you say local pickup do you mean with eBay or something like craigslist?

·5 months agoYou can list them on eBay, and only allow for local pick up. If you are going to use cash as the method of payment, you must still offer a way for buyers to pay on eBay as well. You cannot list them as cash only.
I cannot stress how much I agree with the others that you need to find someone local to buy these. It is far less risk and less work for you. eBay is a fine place to use local pick up. I've sold several things as local pick up. If you go this route, make sure you scan the QR code when the in-person meeting happens. If the buyer does not have the QR code, they can give you the six digit code they recieved in the email when they made their purchase. As a back up, you can print a copy of the order details and have the buyer sign it to acknowledge they picked up their order from you. Ideally, the QR code or six digit code it what you want. This stuff is important because it is what protects you from an item not recieved claim.

·5 months agoI should of asked if it was a modern, newer studio display. I assumed it was an older/more vintage one.
If it is a newer one that can go used for $800+, sell it locally, experienced scammers will swarm all over it, and you may have it "legally" stolen from you. Modern Apple products are scammer magnets.
If you absolutely must sell it online, pay the UPS or FedEx store to pack it. It will relieve you of all liability if it is broken. It will cost you $80+ for just the packing, but it is nothing compared to being out $1000+ on a broken monitor. Don't chance it.

OP5 months agoThey’re the 2022 model so yea I’d say they’re modern. When you say locally on eBay or somewhere else? They’re in perfect condition no scratches dents wear or tear was gonna put them up at 1250 and lower it down from there.
i took pictures of the serial number even a short video of the display working. I don’t use facebook and Craigslist is dead by me so not sure what else to use.

·5 months agoPersonally I wouldn't sell anything Apple unless I had a lot more selling history or was an authorized dealer. They're one of the biggest-problem brands with resellers online because of popularity and quickly flippable worldwide.
You can expect buyers searching for new sellers (you) and then they claim it's fake or broken to get it for free. Many scammers search for this stuff, Macbooks, Airpods, ipones etc.
Also there are many counterfeits, it's well known. They could claim that.
Apple itself doesn't like resellers and won't back up serno's or authenticity.
Not to be so terribly pessimistic here, but you're a new seller... I'd sell it local.

·5 months agoCover the screen with plastic. They need to be double boxed, with the inner box cocooned in bubble wrap. Apple's "shipping" boxes are not built for shipping individually via private carriers. They should be, given their huge markup, and used to be back in the day... to some giant companies using flimsy boxes to ship items is now some kind of a flex, but I digress...
Be aware they will be well over a cubic foot packed properly, and will incur dimensional weight charges, possibly overlength surcharges, and with UPS and FedEx possible weight and dimension cost "adjustments" (real or imagined) after the fact.
I would try and sell them locally first. They may be expensive, very fragile and easily broken, tons of liability shipping them.

·5 months agoyou can put a plastic bag over the display, that will serve as a protector to prevent any rub marks from the packaging.

·5 months agoI would put A LOT of bubble wrap around the display, for starters.... no reason to skimp here.
When in doubt, pay UPS to do the fragile packing. Costs a few bucks, but if it gets broken, they are guaranteed to pay the claim.

·5 months agoUse 2" thick corner protectors with the Apple box inside another box. When shipping electronics, polyethylene foam material is your best friend.

·5 months agoApple tends to use boxes that are barely larger than the contents, providing very little protection. All of my iPads had about a millimeter of impact space at the corners.

·5 months agoUse the original Apple boxes packaged in plain corrugated outer boxes. Otherwise, they're likely to be stolen.

OP5 months agoyea found a website that does custom boxes 8 per box so gonna spend the money. Should the box be bigger with extra packing or do you think I should get the same size box without? Apple seems to ship it i the same size box without so not sure.
