Seller Shipping Paid
I’d like to be able to report how much I actually spend as a seller on shipping. When I run the reports, it only shows me what a customer has paid in shipping. What report will show me what I have paid to eBay for shipping.
I typically go item by item and pull the detail from the item after sale. However, after too much time has elapsed, you can no longer access your sales item by item. I missed a small chunk of them at the start of the year and I’d like to track down those figures.

·11 months agoExactly how @participatrophy stated; it's easy; change the dates (I do 'last month'); then scroll down a bit and you will see exactly what you spent on shipping labels.

·11 months agoIf that information is that important to you, then start shipping everything through Pirateship.
On their "reports" page you will find that information in spades broken down in detail in many ways. Total spent, total per week, exact cost per shipment, and many others.

Change the dates to the period you want the data for, click Generate Report, then click Download and you'll get a .csv with the figures you're wanting.

·11 months ago@whatchagot4metoday You are exactly right. You do need to know that. Not just for taxes, but so you know what you are actually net sales and profit margins actually are.
There are several ways you can keep track of this information. You can use paid programs that automatically download and track it for you. You can manually track it in a spreadsheet yourself, which is what I do—I just enter the cost of each shipping label into the spreadsheet. Another option is to download your monthly eBay financial statement. One of the sections is "Shipping Labels." Go over it carefully to make sure it’s correct. It itemizes what you actually paid for the label, matches it with the corresponding item, and also shows any refunds. You really only need the total for the year for tax purposes, though watch closely at the end of the year for sales that could impact when you can take the expense deduction based on your method of accounting. If you use the cash method, it is straight forward and you can just go by the total for the month. If you use the accrual method, you will want to count any labels (or any other expense) that occur in the new year but is tied to a sale from the tax year.

·11 months agoEbay sends you emails of all label receipts you print out. Just go back to your emails and write down what exactly it cost you for shipping. That's the way I do it. Then I just type it in my expenses as what it cost to ship.

OP11 months agoThat could work, If I still have the emails. This should be reported on an eBay report. This is a form of income that passes through their system, and it should be easily segregated from the rest of the figures that are reported.

To whom do you plan to report this information.
And, unless you're offering free shipping and building the price into the item price, aren't your buyers the ones who are paying shipping?

OP11 months agoShipping is an expense. It is a business expense. It should be a reportable figure that is easily broken out if you are accounting for all of your monies.

OP11 months agoAnd for what it’s worth if a customer pays me $10 for shipping and I only pay $5 for the label, that’s income. It should be easily determined how much the customer paid me and how much I paid out.
