Seller marked item as shipped before actually mailed out (continued)
I recently bought an item over $750 and eBay allows sellers to mark item as shipped before actually mailing it out. This allows sellers/scammers to get paid even if they don't deliver it. If sellers don't get items scanned for tracking purposes when they drop items off for delivery or if they don't deliver by the estimated handling time or if they take the money and run buyers shouldn't have to wait the estimated delivery time or longer for a refund because it could take weeks. That's bad business there has to be a better way around this for the buyer.

·11 months agoThe thread opening post is SO full of wrong information, that it is basically not worth responding.
For starters:
(sellers don't get paid when item is shown as 'shipped'; ONLY when it shows DELIVERED)
(sellers do NOT mark things as 'shipped'.... ebay does)

OP11 months agoSomebody got paid because the money was taken out of my account but no item was shipped. There's no excuse for it because it's simple to get delivery confirmation. I've bought and sold plenty of things on eBay and with all the taxes they take they should be doing more to for the buyer especially when spending over $750.

·11 months agoWhen you pay, the money goes to Ebay, not the seller.
Depending on the item, price and seller, Ebay could hold the funds for 30 days before releasing the payment to the seller.

What taxes? You mean the state taxes your state takes? You still have another week for the estimated delivery. I only see 7 sales from quite a while ago, until your recent $30 sale. Do you sell with another id for all those 'plenty of sales' you"ve had?

OP11 months agoAnd all 7 of those buyers loved me so obviously I'm a great seller. Which means I know how to deliver a package. I find it baffling how people keep saying that some sellers drop off expensive packages at the post office without confirming item was scanned and that's allowed.

·11 months agoWell for myself, since I no longer drive,my mailman picked up my pkgs here.I would try to catch him before he took them from my mailbox to make sure he scanned them, but that was impossible. Many pkgs were not scanned, and I had a few that were not scanned until they arrived in their destination city. I would tell very anxious buyers like yourself that all they had to worry about was the estimated delivery date. That if they didnt get their item, they were fully protected by Ebay.I always shipped promptly, and had nice comments about that too.Ive been selling here for 26 years, and I can only recall two lost pkgs..and the buyers were refunded of course. Just like you will be, if your item doesnt arrive in another week.

OP11 months agoI'm not anxious I'm just smart. I just called eBay and they agreed with me and cancelled the order and I will be receiving a prompt refund. Thanks for your two cents tho.

·11 months agoWhere in the world did you get a number to call Ebay? They havent had a phone number since Covid.Tho there are a lot of fake scam numbers on the net. If you really did talk to Ebay Im shocked that they would cancel a transaction that may be in transit. Thats a new one for me.
momtoabeautifuldaughter
·11 months agoWhat number did you call because eBay doesn't have a number to call? Been that way for 4 or 5 years I believe.

·11 months agoeBay has the money right now, not the seller. If it is a newer seller they may not get paid for 30 days.

·11 months agoYou obviously are NOT much of a seller and have NO idea how ebay works which has NOTHING to do with TAXES (most absurd thing I've ever read). Taxes are nothing but 'sales tax that a state requires this site to collect, which forces a buyer to pay).
Yes, it's simple to get 'delivery confirmation' when tracking is given to a buyer, but again, that has NOTHING to do with anything you've stated.

·11 months agoIt is not unheard of that an item might be in the hands of a carrier like USPS for several days without a scan,
The seller is required to ship within his specified handling time which was shown on the original listing. For items with the top rated plus badge that is a day, For other listing it can vary, My listings have a 5 day handling time, even though 95% of my orders ship the same or next day,
Weekend days do not count.
Although there could be a problem with the seller, there are bad sellers, the problem could also be that you have unrealistic expectations.
Ebay targets its item not received enforcement based on the estimated delivery date because of their inability at this early stage to determine who and what is failing,

OP11 months agoInteresting take but if a buyer is paying over $750 sellers should be told to make sure that a package is scanned in the system by estimated handling time It's not hard, eBay made items so easy to ship. All you have to do is stand in line at the post office. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be selling things on eBay. Maybe my expectations are to high.

Maybe they are, technically the tracking was never meant for the buyers convenience, its to protect sellers from buyers complaining that they didnt get their item, with delivery confirmation.

This is incorrect. The seller has no say in the matter. Once a label is purchased through eBay an email is automatically sent to the buyer claiming it has shipped. This has been a sticking point for a while but there's no indication eBay plans to address the issue.

·11 months agoNO - eBay marks it as shipped, not the seller. And that "get paid even if they do not deliver" is a false assumption. I have been here long enough and shipped enough stuff that I never get my monies held.

If a seller is subject to holds... the item has to be delivered first before they get the funds released.
Otherwise, with no holds they get the money without the need to mark anything as shipped.

·11 months ago2 things you should know...
email notifications are
1st Notice is Item "Being" Shipped (I just packed one for tommorrow and printed the label)
2nd Notice is Your Item is at the Carrier (USPS, UPS, etc....). That will be your message once it is scanned in (acceptance scan)
3. (sometimes) Your item is "Out for Delivery"
The return clock does not start until you RECEIVE the item for the MBG or any disputes.
"Marked" means nothing until the 1st scan
(all this is assuming tracked packages)

·11 months agoMore than likely at this point it was marked shipping label created. If you do not receive it, one day after the estimated delivery date you can open an item not received.

OP11 months agoThanks, but I knew that already. My point is that's a long time to wait, especially when you can see from the tracking that the person never mailed it out. If I pay for shipping and tracking I need to receive updates in timely manner or else what did I pay for.

·11 months agoWhen I create the shipping label, the status changes to shipped.
When the post office confirms acceptance, it says shipped and carrier scanned.

OP11 months agoExactly, it's been 5 days and my tracking number still says that it hasn't shipped to me because they're still waiting to receive it from the seller and the seller isn't responding to messages. At this point eBay should step in but instead they make you wait out the whole estimated delivery time.

·11 months ago"Exactly, it's been five days and my tracking number still says that it hasn't shipped to me because they're still waiting to receive it from the buyer and the buyer isn't responding to messages. I just feel like sellers with low feedback shouldn't be allowed to sell expensive products until they reach a certain percentage of positive feedback or something. "
I think you mean from the 'seller' ,not the buyer? Thats why Ebay holds an infrequent sellers funds for up to thirty days.
dvdhogg12
OP11 months agoYes I meant seller, thank you.
kensgiftshop
·11 months agoDid you check to see what their handling time was?
dvdhogg12
OP11 months agoI think it was included with the delivery time it says I will receive it between 8/29 - 9/5. So I'm assuming it should have been dropped off by the 8/29.
kensgiftshop
·11 months agoIf that's the date shown in your purchase history, those are estimated delivery dates.
If the last date is 9/6, you still have a week to receive it.
Some sellers don't get the item scanned when they drop it off, they just toss them in a tub and it might be a few days before it gets any scans.
dvdhogg12
OP11 months agoActually it says 9/5 and to report item not received on 9/6. Also post office is closed Sunday and Monday is labor day, so they have 4 days not 7. Plus it hasn't even been dropped of yet to them yet. Like come on man stop acting like I'm crazy.

·11 months agonot as easy as it sounds, but yes it does happen and that is why new and infrequent sellers are on a leash.
if something doesn't seem right then it's probably not.
like a seller that may have a huge quantity of items listed and little to no feedback
or it can happen too if there is a extended handling time and again little to no feedback
it's not "common place" but you do have to use your best judgement.
sooner or later ebay catches on and people get there money back.
dvdhogg12
OP11 months agoDoesn't seem like new or infrequent sellers are on a leash because one just got me for over $800.
