Returned Item Reimburse For Original Shipping
I recently sold an item on eBay and when the buyer received it they decided they had made the purchase by mistake - nothing wrong with the item. Ebay approved their request to return it to me. The original item was sold with "Free Shipping". When the item is received back to me can I refund the buyer the original selling price minus the actual shipping cost to send it to them. The item was quite large and expensive to ship and is being returned to me because of "buyer remorse". Thank you for your assistance.

·3 years agoSorry that's not how it works. If a buyer has paid a separate cost for original shipping, the seller can withhold money regardless if they had free returns.
If an item purchased had free shipping, the seller cannot withhold that money when the item is returned.

That still wouldn't be totally accurate. If the listing had free returns they could still hold back original shipping IF they buyer paid for original shipping and IF it was a buyers remorse return. Free returns does not affect the original shipping.

·3 years ago@pjcdn2005 I don't see any option when setting up return rules for free returns where you can exclude the original shipping. Am I missing something?

·3 years agoI don’t think that I have ever seen it written anywhere but that is how it has always worked since free returns started. I do know that it doesn’t state anywhere that free returns means that the seller has to refund original shipping.
You wouldn’t need a rule for that. When it is time to refund a remorse return and the buyer has paid for shipping, eBay has two options showing. One is for a refund including original shipping, the other one is without original shipping. You choose which option you want.

·3 years agoHe is not saying to refund the buyer original shipping. He's asking if he can deduct the shipping cost of it getting returned back go him because it was a remorse buy.
