·3 years agoThe solution to this, if you want to use it, is to quit offering free shipping. Most of the buyers who live in those destinations are pretty well aware that their shipping costs will be more than the usual (although I've been given to understand that shipping to HI is the same as shipping to CA).

·3 years agoHI, AK, and PR are Zone 8 shipping if you're shipping via USPS, but for larger items going via UPS or FedEx or freight, those offshore destinations are far more expensive than the 48 contiguous states.
The solution is to set up shipping tables which offer free shipping to the 48 states and charge an appropriate increment for other locations.

·3 years agoNO one here works for Ebay. You need to learn calculated shipping. Add a modest handling fee.

·3 years agoThe best way to handle shipping costs to remote areas is to use Calculated shipping. That way, the buyer will always pay what it costs to ship to their location. Use eBay's shipping calculator tool to get an estimate of the different prices a buyer would see from a different zip so that you can pick which methods to include in your listing.

If you will ship some items, and not others, to remote locations, you can exclude locations at the listing level by looking for that option near the bottom of the advanced listing editor. If you are using the desktop Quick Lister, then look for "Switch to Business tool" at the top of the page and make that switch.
On the advanced business listing tool (desktop), scroll down to the shipping section. Click the settings icon at the top right of that section and turn on the display of "Excluded locations". That module will then be visible on your listing form and you can restrict shipping to chosen areas on a case-by-case basis.
If, instead, you want to restrict all of your items at the account level, then visit this shipping preferences page, where you can "Exclude locations" and choose to have that setting apply to all listings:

If you would rather ship to those more distant areas, but with more control, open "Shipping Rate tables" on the same preferences page. Set up rate tables for various weights of items (paying attention to oversized items) and then apply a rate or rule to each group that you have selected. You can set up many different rate tables and apply the appropriate table in the Shipping section of the listing tool instead of Excluding buyers in those remote locations.
