Refund for shipping?
I paid $22.95 for expedited shipping 10 days ago for an item shipped domestically and haven't received the item yet. There hasn't been an update for 3 days and tracking says "in transit" with no location. I know what to do if I don't get the item at all, but what recourse is there for the shipping cost?

·3 years agoAs a seller I would not reimburse the shipping fee. Sometimes, an item will take longer to arrive. It might have gotten stuck in a sack or fell behind a machine and it is stuck there for a few days. If you go to your post office with the tracking #, the postal system will show more detail. Perhaps the mail clerk can call and get someone at that particular facility to look around and see if they can locate your box and get it moving.
Shipping is expensive and you paid that amount too because of the weight of the item and the distance between you and the seller. Hang in there. Sometimes things do take a bit longer.

·3 years ago@therij That is something for you to work out with the seller. There is no policy on returning shipping costs because the item was delayed. If you proceed in a kind manner with your seller, most likely they will refund you the shipping costs. This happens sometimes with USPS, packages get delayed.
If the item doesn't arrive, you have nothing to worry about as you have purchased an item on a platform that offers a money back guarantee. Go to your purchase history and select the item. Check the estimated date of delivery for your item and once that passes simply open an item not received case. Mark it as item not received and follow the prompts. You will not lose your money, but you do need to be more patient and just wait until the estimated date of arrival has actually passed. Best of luck to you....

OP3 years agoThe original estimated delivery date was the 22nd, but has moved to the 25th. Forgive my inexperience in these matters. I have only purchased items on Ebay a few times and I received them in just a few days. I appreciate the advice of someone who has been through this process before. If I do open an item not received case will it impact my buyer rating? What if the item arrives after I've received a refund? Thanks for your patience.

@therij
1) It will not impact your buyer rating at all. 2) You can reach out to the seller and re-pay for the item.
Edit to add: Hopefully the package still shows movement and will be to you before having to be refunded.

·3 years agoWhy are you going to open an item NOT received case if there is a tracking # and there is movement. You need to wait. It is NOT ethical to open a case, get a refund and then your item arrives. That is theft. Give it a few more days. Be patient. The post office nowadays is doing more work with LESS employees than a few years ago. Those dates that ebay puts there are just estimates. If you and the seller live on opposite coasts, very often, the items will take a few days longer to arrive. By your shipping quote, I already know that you and the seller are far away. If either of you lives in Hawaii or Alaska, for sure , the estimates a way off. Blame this on ebay for putting many of those unrealistic shipping estimates to get folks to bid.

·3 years ago@therij I have been through this process many times before and it's quite simple. You must wait a business day after the estimated date of arrival. That means you need to wait until Monday at the soonest to open the item not received case. Simply follow the prompts and you'll be fine.
No, there is no impact on your buying rating as this platform offers the money back guarantee. You are just following the policies.
If the item were to arrive after you've been refunded you can always send the payment back to the seller via PayPal. Everything has a solution. Best of luck to you....

·3 years agoDid you put the tracking number into the carrier's website for example USPS to see what is going on? There may be better information available to you there, for instance, the package information, was it shipped first class, priority mail, or express. Go to the carrier's site and see what you can find with your tracking number.
eBay's dates are estimates, the seller does not have any control over what eBay estimates.

·3 years agoI wanted to add, if a customer of mine chooses express and it is not delivered by the guaranteed delivery date, I do file a claim on their behalf and refund, but lots of services for not have a guaranteed delivery date. The seller is the only one that can file a claim, and I do not believe you have recourse if they choose not to, or choose to not refund any shipping charges.

·3 years agoWhat service was used? If it was Express or Second Day mail they come with service guarantees and a refund should be available to the SHIPPER. However, regular priority Mail probably not although you MIGHT be able to convince the seller to make an adjustment as a sign of good customer service.
Of course, if you never get it then an Item Not Received complaint will get you a postage refund as well.
