Questions about using Standard Shipping as your option
I saw this in a thread:
"Ebay has said that First Class to Ground Advantage will not be automatic.
First Class will revert to a generic "Standard Shipping" status, so your buyers won't see accurate delivery estimates and your buyers won't qualify for eBay's Guaranteed Delivery protection."
More often than not, I have typically chosen "Standard Shipping: 1-5 Days" as my shipping service. I have always figured that by doing this, customers won't see a specific method and it lets my chose whichever option is cheapest for me when it's time to print a label. Is it correct that by choosing standard shipping, buyers are still given an option of what shipping method they want... or am I the only one that can choose?Also, does standard shipping have any negative effect on a listing's algorithm search rank? Does it tend a to show a slower estimated delivery date than choosing Ground Advantage or UPS?
That quote mentioned delivery protection... do buyers see something about that when looking at listings that have standard shipping as the option or is it something 99% of buyers won't even notice?

OP3 years agoOk well I guess I'll just keep doing it like I have and choose standard shipping.... with free flat rate I need to be able to choose the cheapest option on my end.

OP3 years agoDo most sellers choose a particular service when making a listing? I do flat rate free shipping on almost all my listings and I hate the thought of locking myself into a particular shipping option. When I go to print a label, that is when I can see all the options and they can vary widely in price... I don't want to tell a customer Fedex and then see that USPS is $6 cheaper. It seems I've watched videos of resellers choosing the shipping option they wanted when printing a label. I guess I need input from the flat rate shippers out there... do you choose standard shipping or a particular service?

·3 years agoYes, most sellers do post a specific carrier or give the buyer the option to choose from two or more. As posted come buyers are partial to a specific carrier and/or looking for the best delivery time.
I use free Flat Rate all the time on my other account and specify a carrier and a general class of service, but not a specific service option, so I still have some options for the best cost to me. Often though I will also include a faster service at an appropriate surcharge.

·3 years ago"Standard Shipping" lets you choose the carrier. This is only a problem if a buyer wants to know in advance what carrier is being used, as some do not like UPS or FedEx for instance. Best to avoid it, if you can.
All buyers are protected for non-delivery, regardless of the selection of Standard Shipping, so not sure what they don't qualify for means.
And who knows what the search engine does in regard to shipping time, although free shipping and free returns do get some priority, but I wouldn't be surprised faster shipping does carry some perk.
