Postal carrier scanned outgoing order and now it says it is delivered
I sold an item this morning. The label was printed at 11:34 am EST. The mailman picked it up and scanned it around 2:55 pm. Now (3:00 pm) tracking says it was delivered. The item has to go from Pennsylvania to Texas. Should I be worried?

·8 months agoHappens in the UK as well, wouldnt worry about it, if its says delivered ebay will side with you anyway, even if they select item not as described offer them a return which you probably wont get so you win anyway, thats the wonder of mail order, dont forget, USPS are an approved partner with ebay.

·8 months agoI had this happen to me a few months ago. I dropped off 4 packages (one was from another platform). One of my buyers demanded I refund him immediately because the package showed as "delivered" (to me) but was scanned incorrectly. The packages must have made it because I never heard back from the buyers, but the tracking was never updated to show they were actually delivered except the package from the other platform.

·8 months agoMy buyer questioned it when this happened, but unless your buyer does, I’d just wait for the scan updates.

·8 months agoI have also had this happen. Mine never updated on eBay or USPS after, I was able to go to the PO and have them give me an update since they can still see the actual info on their end.
One of my affected buyers also contacted me immediately. Thankfully I seem to attract reasonable buyers that all waited for them to be delivered. Which they were, in the normal time.

·8 months agoDepends on the buyer. I once had a buyer go nuts saying it was delivered to me. Worse yet, USPS could not correct it on line. The buyer was bananas until it arrived.

·8 months agoEbay does not update the tracking it shows to buyers after a delivery scan,
USPS updates it tracking after a delivery scan.
Under the current circumstances, if the postman does not do a picked up scan immediately after the delivered scan, it may be a day or two before another scan is done.
If you hear from your buyer, check the tracking on USPS.com.
If it has not yet had another scan, advise the buyer of the situation and the delay. If it has been scanned again, tell them so. And always include a link to the tracking on USPS.com. Depending on your frame of mind, tell them nicely or not so nicely about how this is a long standing Ebay problem, reported multiple times that has not been found to be important enough to fix.

·8 months agoNot at all. The carrier has his scanner set for Delivered scans because that's what he does all day, and when doing your pickup he forgot to change it to Acceptance. This will have no effect on the package travels and the USPS website tracking will automatically update it from that erroneous Delivered as soon as further scans occur.
Apparently the eBay website has problems updating its own Delivered status, but if your buyer asks about it, point him to USPS.com with his tracking number so he can see its correct status.

·8 months ago@hikaneohe Sounds like the carrier had their handheld scanner set to the wrong setting. This situation isn't ideal, I'll tell you that. I had a dozen or more packages that were mis-scanned a couple of years ago. Once buyers made me aware of it (about 30 minutes after it happened), I went back to USPS and made them scan them correctly.
Your buyer will message you, likely upset, when they see it was delivered. Some will say let sleeping dogs lie, but I think you need to be proactive here and message the buyer so they are aware of what is going on. When the package gets scanned again, it should show up like normal, but it may still show as delivered. Given it is a Saturday and USPS normally closes early, there is probably not much you can do. If they are still open, you may give them a call to see if they can find your package and correct it. They will most likely not want to do that though.
