Postal Carrier Not Scanning Packages
I am having issues with the Postal Carrier not scanning my packages and keeping them for 3-4 days before they show up with a scan. Is anyone else having this issue? Ebay is holding me responsible, but it's not me. I have asked them to please scan and they won't. I have complained and that is useless.
And now they have the nerve to go up on prices.

·5 months agoIf you've already complained to your local Postmaster to no avail, it's time to go further up the food chain.
Find out who his/her immediate superior is and launch a complaint there.

·5 months agobeen this way for almost 2 years now, I already posted about it a few times......
either scan them at the kiosk or stand in line to get them scanned in.
the workers are no longer required to scan each package in at pickup or drop off
the simple fact that you "dropped it off" means nothing

·5 months agoScanning is always going to vary from town to town and state to state. I talked to my carrier yesterday and she said a sub would be running today. The sub picked up and scanned all 6 shipments on pickup today.
I am so thankful for these carriers out here. All contractors, all women and they all rock.
9 years at this fulltime and I have never seen a dude carrier on our route.

·5 months agothat's thing they "might" scan them but as far as a I know they are no longer "required" to scan them.
your best bet going forward is to just use the kiosk or stand in line or request the carrier or whoever you interact with scan them in.
That way you are for sure off the hook as far as handling time.
If standing in line or taking the extra few minutes is beyond anyone's capability then extend your handling time to 2-3 days and just take the hit from the experienced buyers that expect faster handling

·5 months agoI wouldn’t even complain. I know they’re supposed to, but I look at it as their discretion as to whether or not to scan. Absolutely, I have some issues with it taking days for a scan. Actually, a lot of my items miss scans until the packages hit the local post office of the buyers.
To compensate, I have extended my handling time. Even if I wanted to push for a scan, I really don’t wanna wait in line. And, complaining to the post office about how they handle your packages is a bit like complaining to a waitress before she brings the food to you. You might be in the right, but you might not like the outcome.

·5 months agoHave you contacted your local Postmaster and made him/her aware of this issue?
If he/she seems to have no interest in requiring employees to do their job, have you taken your complaint the next step up the food chain?

·5 months agoWhen scheduling a pickup or dropping off packages, you must generate and print a SCAN (Shipment Confirmation Acceptance Notice) sheet for the carrier /clerk. This piece of paper contains all the packages being shipped that day ( up to 50) so the carrier picking up your packages has to scan ONE barcode at the bottom instead of each individual package ( even if it's just one package). As per USPS -- the carrier is NOT obligated to scan EACH package at pickup but is obligated to scan the SCAN sheet and leave it with you or wherever they pick up the packages. I have a locked package bin to which my carrier has the code.
When your carrier scans this sheet, you will receive your first scan ( it will read as: Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending) This is acceptable for eBay as the first scan and shows USPS is in possession. It shows up in the system in a few hours. The second scan is generated when your package is sorted at your local post office and is off to the distribution center ( it will read: Accepted at USPS Origin Facility). Depending on the distance between of your local post office and the nearest distribution center, packages may be processed the day of pick up OR if distance is greater than 50 miles, they may not process your packages for several days. This was announced in 2022.

·5 months agoBeen like that in some areas for over two years now. I switched to three day handling.

·5 months agoIf your post office has a self-service kiosk you may be able to scan there. I often do that and get a paper and emailed receipt as well. You still need the item to be scanned by a postal worker to qualify for insurance should it get lost, but it at least counts as "accepted" as far as Ebay is concerned.

You the seller are responsible for the delivery of the package and for that package to get to buyer in the condition that was listed. If the package wasn't scanned yes you can get a defect and buyer can file an item not received case after the estimated delivery date. What I do is go to he clerk and have them scan the package for acceptance. Do you have someone pick up or do you go directly to the post office? If you go directly to the post office is there any other post office around which has an employee who does scanning? You will continue to have this problem then if you continue to do what you been doing.

·5 months ago1.) You can file a complaint with the postmaster general.
2.) The price increase has nothing to do with your local carrier. If you don't know why gas prices are going up, turn on the news.

·5 months agoThe seller chooses the shippers and the shipping methods they offer buyers and are responsible for the timely, safe delivery of every order.
None of my USPS shipments are scanned until they reach the first sorting center. Since I am in one of the 60% of all post offices which have only 1 shipment to the sorting center each day, it can be two or three days for the first scan to occur based on the timing of the carrier return and the shipment. And that assumes no one screws up or the truck is not full.
If you do not increase your handling time, you can blame whoever you want, but you will be punished in your Ebay metrics.

·5 months agoWe are considered rural and get truck pickup at each post office in the late afternoon, six days a week, heading into Dallas distribution. They scan on pickup, scan at the local post office and scan when leaving the local post office and scan arrival at the distribution center, leaving the distribution center and so on. They average 4 scans before midnight.
NH, seems kind of lackadaisical.

·5 months agoThat is one way to describe it, but our PO houses a USPS training center, so we could be your future.
Our origin scans which show our PO are performed at the first routing center, the time between them and the scan at the routing center is always less than the transit time.
I have a second home in a rural area. My shipments from there are always scanned by the carrier, who is a contract carrier not a USPS employee. Our PO is a one person PO so sometimes there are missed scans with packages which go through the slot.

·5 months agoMy G.A. packages show scans for that day I put them in my mailbox for pickup. Carriers are to scan them when picking up the packages. I never have a problem with those. My problem comes from ESE's not being scanned until a few days later. USPS has stopped the evening pickup of outgoing mail so the ESE's sit in your local PO overnight. I offer next day mailing. So many times I will show a defect in my Seller Dashboard because of these ESE's showing late scans or no scans at all. I file to remove defect and explain why. 100% of the time eBay rules in my favor. I'm a Top Rated seller and plan on keeping that title!

·5 months agoI’ve had that same issue off and on for quite awhile, a couple years ago during the holiday season, I decided to change my handling time from 3 days to 6 just as a buffer for when my local post office decides not to scan at pick up.
Changing my handling time helped a lot. So, now when I schedule a pickup and those packages aren’t scanned right then,I can relax because of my long handling time.
My buyers packages finally receive scans just prior to delivery and it’s within my handling time so there’s no defects to worry about.
@taylor_resale
I don’t know why you believe you not responsible, sellers are held responsible from the point of sale until the item is in the buyers hands.
taylor_resale
OP5 months agoOnce the Postal Carrier removes that package from the mail box they are responsible. I make sure I package correctly and the address is correct, but the Post office is in charge of delivery. eBay knows this, but now they have AI handling all of this.
lakefor94
·5 months agoIt has been a LONG time since sellers were able to call in to ebay and beg forgiveness to get shipping dings removed.
The customer service reps have been hands off for years. It is all, automated.
robbie31415
·5 months agoThis is not true.
The seller is responsible for the entire process.
Even if the post office runs over it, and reverses to run over it again.
The seller is respobsible.
Now the seller can go after the carrier for reimbursement on the side if they are due.
Ebay expects sellers to get a scan within their handling time.
Ebay will not accept 'carrier didnt' as an excuse.
You have several options. lengthen your handling time. Take your package to the carrier office to get a scan or change your carrier offerings.

·5 months agoYou better show it was pick up by USPS with a scanned on the package. If you have Porch Pirates around, the package shows no scans by USPS, good luck getting refunded by USPS!

·5 months ago@taylor_resale Take your packages to the counter at the post office, where they will scan them. They may put a limit on how many they will scan each time through the line, but they will scan them.
lakefor94
·5 months ago@taylor_resale if you can't get scans on pickups or by taking them to the counter for scans, then increase your handling time to 4 days.
taylor_resale
OP5 months agoI will probably do this. It will cost me, but I am somewhat shocked eBay wants to hold me responsible. You can look in my emails and see where I have been communicating with my customers about it.
lakefor94
·5 months agoIt has been and will always be the seller that is responsible, @taylor_resale .
Except when there is a ebay post for protections due to bad weather.
Good luck moving forward.

·5 months agoI take all my orders to the post office, and yes most times I have to stand in line. But after I hand my packages to the postal worker they scan them so that these orders show accepted. This way my buyers know that I actually shipped their product. I don't rely on mail carriers.
taylor_resale
OP5 months agoYou are lucky. I used to do that, but now I take care of someone elderly so I can’t just leave her and stand in line.

·5 months agoGo on USPS.com and request customer pickup. Fill out the form and they will pick it up at your door and scan it. I did that today. Perfect!

·5 months agoyep, going though it now. Did same day shipping, mailed multiple items. All scanned and delivered except for one.
Buyer concerned understandably. Of course, thinks I should fix it. All I can do is attempt customers nerves. eBay not holding me responsible as of yet. I know I will be refunding buyer. Not their fault.
The system issue, usps allows me to take action 30DAYS from shipping. Obviously, a different time perimeter than eBay.
So, I'll refund buyer, item will arrive prior to the 30 days. Buyer will keep item unless they have the ethics to contact me. USPS will say it was delivered within 30 days.
taylor_resale
OP5 months ago4-Days sometimes before a scan shows up is ridiculous. You have to be leaving them in your car.
I can’t refund them all.
