OP9 months agoThank you for all your suggestions, the site seems to be working now, must have been a USPS glitz.

·8 months agoPossibly the "final word" on postal calculators \\_(ツ)_/:
https://www.ebay.com/shp/calc/rates
This is the best for shipping most things using ebay. It gives ebay's discount rates & comparisons.
It's no good for some cheap light, flat items (like magazines / stamps / photos / stickers / etc) that you might want to send at a lesser cost (using discounted postage) by "First-Class Mail Stamped Letter" (not ebay standard envelope), or "First-Class Mail Stamped Letter Nonmachinable", or "First-Class Mail Large Envelope", or "First-Class Mail International Letter" , or "First-Class Mail International Large Envelope". These are DIY methods using your own postage (not using ebay's labels). You need to look up the cost at:
https://postcalc.usps.com
If that is not working, try these:
https://www.stamps.com/compare-rates/shipping-rates-calculator/
It has comparisons & also has "First-Class Mail Large Envelope", but it's a bit confusing. If you have Nonmachinable charges, you'll just add 49 cents. No international rates lookup.

Lookup for domestic parcel shipping, but not "First-Class Mail Stamped Letter" or "First-Class Mail Large Envelope", or International.

This is good for most things you send using ebay. It gives ebay's discount rates.
For small flat light items sent domestically or international in USPS Large Envelope & International in an ordinary First Class/Large Envelope (including nonmachinable also), it isn't helpful because when you use ebay's shipping, ebay doesn't handle those; it is DIY.

·9 months agoAlso: Some (most) items are not eligible for eBay Standard Envelope or Media Mail, only certain categories, even if it may list those options as available in nearly all categories (but it is tricky & somewhat random at times)

·9 months agoHappening for Firefox and Edge with Win11 as well, haven't worked for me in days. I needed to look up a first class large envelope price and it won't let me.

·9 months agoLooks like a glitch with the site. Whenever the USPS site glitches, it seems like it lasts for days, so I would try an alternate service or just choose Calculated Shipping on eBay.

·9 months agoI have been having the same issue for a couple of days now. There was another post about this on the Shipping board.
I have just been using Pirateship.com and "check rates" to see the rates. It gives you both retail as well as the discount.
I am on Windows 11 using the Microsoft Edge Browser. I don't know if that's the problem or not.

·9 months agoUnless the OP has a typo in his post (which I'm finding a little difficult to understand), the Subject is about USPS but the error message is said to be coming from UPS.

·9 months agoThe empty "postcalc.usps.com says" error box is the same problem I'm having (as above) using the latest versions of both Firefox & Chrome. It's been a week(?) since the problem started. I'm surprised that I can't find any mention of it anywhere other than here.
Pirateship.com allows to lookup domestic parcel shipping, but not letters or large envelopes, or International.

·9 months ago1/6/2025 noticing the same glinch in the postal system...can't go forward! A means for USPS to garnish more money by having consumers trip to the local branch and pay at the counter.

·9 months agoFirefox, up to date. I tried it before my reply (yesterday) and it worked, but just tried again and... same gripe now ;(
Maybe as the Holidays get over they can fix it. It's needed...
