post office terrible service
why is the mail being delayed? The customer paid $26 for priority mail, and it took 8 days to get it delivered
even advantage ground is moving slow taking longer to reach the destination customers get angry
I have no control over the mail system

·2 years agoI can tell you why, the new Postal Service is constantly closing hubs and this is slowing service down. When I worked there from the 80's until 2013, they desired better service to the customer. This new Postmaster General wants failure. They quit giving the postal exam and now they get anyone off the street. They used to give an exam and unless you made in the 90's, it was hard to get hired. Scanning your packages is a maybe. I remember carriers would get written up for unscanned packages. I can't imagine they even notice unless someone complains. I sold 4 items last week, put them in the mail on Monday. Today is Saturday, one-accepted, no other scans. The other 3, still in transit no scans. 2 within 200 miles from me. I miss the good old days. We need these scans to proof delivery. I don't know how many times I have had to ask customer if they received it. I'm rethinking reselling. I'm ashamed of my former employer, my father and I were once proud employees. But nowaways, everything is like this. 🥲

·2 years agoAll of my packages are moving pretty fast. I have had GA and media mail be delivered in 2 or 3 business days to zone, I am in CA and these items were delivered to the East coast. So some items are moving faster then the normal delivery time. Texas and around Ohio are taking longer.

·2 years agoBecause the post office doesn't care. I used to be a postal worker and found priority mail packages that were mailed over a month earlier and they were just sitting under tables.
Another thing is don't waste your time writing, "Handle with care" on your packages. NOBODY AT THE POST OFFICE READS THIS OR CARES! The PO operates huge mail processing plants that process literally millions of pieces of mail and thousands of packages a night and all of them have to be ready to go and on the semi trucks at 6am so they can head to their next destination. We would line up large boxes with the zip code area for different places in the US and then grab the packages, see where they are headed and then throw them in the appropriate box. If you were shipping a rare glass vase, I hope you had it packed well because something in a heavier box might be thrown on top of it and smash it. I remember one time someone shipped a mirror and wrote "Handle With Care" on it and wrapped it in brown paper and it was just shards of broken glass when it arrived at our postal processing plant.
The ONLY items I've seen handled with care are the ones that were insured for a very high amount. Those items were carefully placed in another location and handled by one person who made sure they were treated right.

·2 years agoThat is because the Postal Service changed how mail is handled. My husband works there. We use to have a Local mail slot at the Post Office- now all mail even mail we want to go to our local tax collector will go 50 mills away to be scanned then come back and be delivered.
That is why your mail for 12 miles away is taking 4 days. I wonder what idiot in Washington came up with that idea.

The USPS took that slot out of our PO 15 years ago. LOL (occasionally the clerks bypass that if it's going to a PO box at the that PO)
POs in my area are like a number of places, short staffed. They cannot hire fast enough to handle the growth. I have been told one PO sends out an email every morning looking for delivery carriers from other POs if any are available... oh joy, that's my PO. Yes, there are days we do not get delivery. Yes, we have gotten our mail at 6 at night.
The scans that are supposed to take place haven't been happening for 6 or more years. The sorting center used to scan them in as received by the "origin" PO instead of them doing it. That has stopped and now you just get a scan at from the sorting center, sometimes when it ships out.

·2 years agoI've had Priority take 9 days to get 2 states away while 1st Class and/or Ground Advantage take 2 days to get 15 states away.
and this was last Spring, Summer etc.
Bottom line: it is what it is and always has been.

The COVID scare convinced many USPS employees (especially "baby boomers") to take early retirement, since their working conditions forced many of them to be in close contact with complete strangers every day.
So -- lots of positions suddenly became available, and are still largely unfilled.
As an example -- my local post office used to have three full-time employees on hand; but now they are attempting to get along with just a single person -- which is impossible.
Plus our mail deliveries are down to only four days a week, instead of six.
And I have been frequently urged by the counter employees to fill out an application form for USPS employment -- despite the fact that I am 76 years old, and not in the least bit interested in working again under someone else's supervision.
I have also received the same requests from Target, where I briefly worked a few years ago, coming briefly out of retirement in order to pay off some large credit card bills.
We may simply have to grow used to the idea that services to which we had grown accustomed are simply facing significant cut-backs -- and those cut-backs will be across the board in multiple economic areas.

·2 years agoWhen you're dealing with transportaion issues in logisitics, anything is possible.....human error, nature, mechannical issues, other factors all play a role in delivery times. No carrier is perfect & all the carriers have room for improvement. Do your best to sooth the customer's anger & good luck!

·2 years agoUSPS normal mail takes 3-4 days across the USA NOT using tracking. This I love!
However, same here, when I send something priority mail last month it took 2 weeks to get to the buyer in Florida. Buyer in Florida stated mail delivery is so slow in his state now.
It's the tracking of items there are making slow delivery. Luckily, most of my items don't need tracking and this how I get "repeat buyers"...by not using tracking. And have not lost anything without tracking in the USA this year.

·2 years agoPerhaps you had not noticed, but the USPS wasn't lightning fast before this either.
Now that we've entered the peak shipping season, we can naturally expect it to become exponentially worse.

People that sell understand that USPS is fast on 99% of shipments. Holidays or not, I see 2-3 days to get items across the country. Sure, there are random items that take a few days extra - but that is the exception, not the rule.

I dont sweat the inexpensive items and will go ahead and gamble with USPS as the carrier this time of year.
If it is a expensive item, UPS is the choice for consistent, on time delivery.
Hope you find better luck with deliveries. It can be a gamble this time of year.
