Package went to destination post office but was returned, buyer wants item shipped to another addres
Hi. Occasional seller here. Buyer bought and paid for an item, but the destination post office returned the item. I asked if their address was correct in ebay. They said yes, they still want the item, will pay to reship it but to will give me a different address. Well how in the world would that work? I'm leaning to refunding the transaction and the buyer can rebuy it with the address they want it shipped to in their ebay account. Does anyone have any advice as to how best to handle this situation?

OP11 months agoThanks everyone. I picked up the package this morning. The post office said the reason for the return was the buyer's forwarding address on file had expired. I refuned the buyer the entire transaction, then sent him a link to the relisted item. He said he had straightened it out with the post office and purchased the item again. All is well.

·11 months agoYes cancel as "problem with address" and refund payment. Then relist and they cn purchase it using the correct address.
Otherwise, if you just ship it a different address you stand to lose the item and the money.

·11 months agoIf they really want it I would just create a special listing for their shipping cost rather than relist the actual item.
Title: Special for JoeSmoe
Description: As we discussed
Make sure to account for the fees and that they have updated their account with the address they want it sent to.

At minimum, you need to refund for the item. Whether or not you refund the original shipping cost is up to you. Some sellers do and some sellers don't. If it was free shipping the full payment should be refunded.
Once the buyer has updated their address, they can repurchase the item.
As eze-right1 stated never change the shipping address. You will lose all protection. I just stated ebay would not allow sellers to change their addresses.
FYI: In the cart, below all of the payment options, there is a ship to window where an alternative address can be entered.

You basically answered your own question. You must refund the buyer then the buyer must repurchase the item under the address that they want it to be shipped to. The buyer needs to understand you can't make any changes and are required to ship to the address on file.

·11 months agoRelist it, then contact the buyer. If they requested to change the address to a different address when it's in transit, don't do it. If you do, they can report it and say that they didn't get it, then you lose your money and your item. Definately a caveat there.
