Package stuck at destination post office
I have three packages stuck at my post office. I am the buyer. They are telling me there is an "intercept" on them.
I was told I can not pick them up, and they can not deliver or return to the sender.
The items are nothing that is prohibited, and the origin country is not restricted. They all went thru customs. One was sent back out and returned to my postoffice. All three are now sitting at my postoffice (the destination)
Tracking just shows "In transit to destination " " moving through network".
The rep I talked to at my post office told me she does not know who put the intercepts on the packages and they are literally sitting on her desk. She told me they can't do anything until they figure out who did this. Has been a week, and they are no longer answering the phone when I try to call.
I work during the hours they are open, so I can't just go over there to talk. She told me I would just be told the same thing.
These are international registered mail by the way.
I asked her if this was perhaps something to do with customs, and she said she doesn't know and this was not normal. Normally if customs used intercepts to recall a package for a second look, they would know. There is nothing in the computer system telling them what to do with them.
I did ask if there was anything like insufficient postage or if it was "unamailable", and she said no, it is the intercepts.
I talked to the seller and he confirmed that he did not put the intercepts on them.
I have put in several research requests, and they were closed with zero communication from USPS. Yes, I checked my spam folder.
I also asked if the postal inspector put the intern them, and she said she does jot know, but normally not only would she know, but it would be in the inspectors possession not hers. I was also told the PI can put an intercept for any reason (emotions? A guy from the destination country beat up his sister? Who knows)
This has been ongoing for 20 days now with zero resolution.
Neither me or the seller know what to do at this point.
Beginning to worry they may eventually be destroyed for no logical or legal reason.
Anyone have a simular situation before?

·3 years agoStrange. Your PO won't like it, but try going over their head by talking with a regional supervisor or someone who can give you better answers.
If you call your PO again, call a half hour or so before they are officially open. They're usually there and are more able to talk without people at the windows.

·3 years agoSee if the seller got their payment. The only time that I would pay for an package intercept is if my buyer did not pay me or did a chargeback. Did you recently have an issue with a credit card and that was the one that you used? Go to MY purchases and see if it says anything about the payment, assuming that you did pay. Don't laugh, some sellers will ship something without getting paid.

OP3 years agoThanks, didn't think about that. Yes it shows payed, and my card shows the charge.
I did a video call with the seller last week, and he is as confused as I am. He has sent several packages to the US, same type of item, with only one foul up by USPS, they sent it to Switzerland, lol, but it made it to the buyer eventually. Never had this intercept issue before. I actually had to explain to him what an intercept was.

·3 years agoCan the seller try to claim lost package on their end?

OP3 years agoNo, as it isn't lost. We tried that. 😕

·3 years agoWell that's weird to say the least.
As to the PI being involved, I would imagine if a PI thought something was off they would go ahead and seize the package and not bother to send it back to the PO, but I could be wrong.

OP3 years agoYeah, definitely wierd. They did say that if the PI was involved, they would not only know, but the PI would have custody of it.
Seems whoever developed the intercept system, assumed it was infallible, and didn't put in a way to correct errors.
Will try to call the PO again tomorrow and see if there has been any updates.
Thanks
