Package not arriving by the date the buyer "needed" it
We recently shipped a $700 order. At the request of the buyer we sent it overnight ups the same day they purchased it. Now buyer said they needed it by Saturday and since Friday was a holiday it wouldn't arrive by the time they needed it.
What should we do in this case? I told them I would do a refund if they shipped the item back to us. Any thought?

·1 year ago$720 offer, was that including overnight shipping, hope much was the total, if over $750 you need signature confirmation. I think is best to do package interception. There was no way this would arrive on the 5th. Overnight shipping is expensive.

Is the item in question the "2002 Jumbo Pokemon Reverse Holo Box Topper S1/s4 p?"
Was the total payment made by the buyer $750+ because if so, you also need signature confirmation. (I'm not sure whether UPS collects and displays online signature.)
When you shipped it, what was the estimated delivery date? I ask because when I look at that listing today (July 5), I'm seeing the EDD as Wed, Jul 9 and Mon, Jul 14 even though shipping is UPS next day air.
The buyer should have seen an EDD of later than July 5 if he bought it on July 3.
(This isn't to say that it'll prevent him from a claim; just that he would have seen a later date than he claims he needed it by.)

·1 year agoIf you are able to intercept it do so. One reason they ask for overnight is to prevent you from being able to intercept in time. Also, eBay is the shipper technically, so unless you paid for shipping outside of ebay, maybe so since you changed to "over night", eBay may have to initiate the intercept.
In the future two things, never perform a service after the sale that you didn't initially list, and never change a shipping method after a sale. I hope you get the card back

OP1 year agoWe edited the listing to the over night shipping before it sold we purchase our shipping directly from eBay.
I'm not really sure how to initiate an intercept but will try to figure it out tonight. We are new, and It seems like we fell for a scam? 😞

·1 year agoErrrr. I feel you are about to be taken advantage of. That's an odd item that someone would suddenly order and need two days later - and they wait until there is a holiday to boot. I mean, if it were a gift and you were dropping that much change, you'd want to make sure it was there on time and buy it at any other time other than the last minute. Besides, if it was a gift and it arrived late, you'd just let the recipient know it would be late. I'm sure they'd be good with that.
When the buyer requested the overnight service, did you explain to them you cannot guarantee it would make it by Saturday, especially given the holiday?
UPS has an intercept service. I think you have to do it before the first delivery attempt. I think given the value of the item and the oddity that the buyer needed that particular item in two days, I would do my best to get the card rerouted back to me. Then, once you get it back, fully refund the buyer and eat the cost of the $35 shipping. That is much better than taking the loss I'm concerned you are going to take if that card gets delivered.
Buyers who want something extra fast and want a service I don't offer are buyers I do not want. As sellers we cannot guarantee when any carrier will deliver anything, and while in my experience UPS and FedEx don't seem to have the widespread and extensive delays USPS does, they also aren't on-time every time either.
I hope you can get that card back.

You are mercy of carrier, and correct with Fridays holiday that should have been taken into account. eBay already provided the estimated delivery date, what does it says? If buyer was in a time crunch, they should’ve bought locally through regular B & M store. Be prepared to be hit with an item not as described claim. What was the item in question?

OP1 year agoSomeone posted the link in one of the responses. It's a Charizard box topper. Originally listed at $900 and we took his offer of $720 after we changed it to over night shipping 😞
