Package lost at Glendale Heights, IL
I sent a package to Canada November 1st via the International shipping program. According to tracking, delivery was attempted November 16th. The item was sent back December 12th and marked as delivered to Glendale Heights, IL December 22nd. The buyer still wants the coat and has been messaging me since December 4th in an attempt to find the package. She said she has attempted to contact the Post Office in Canada and claims that it was mistakenly sent back. She is willing to pay to have it redelivered but now we can't find it. I have contacted ebay as well as usps with no luck. Does anyone know what happens to packages that are sent back to Glendale Heights, IL or any idea on next steps to take to locate the package?

Returns and refunds
International legal requirements mean that buyers can return items sent by eBay International Shipping up to 30 days from the date the item is delivered to them, so we automatically apply a 30 day return policy for items shipped with eBay International Shipping. All eBay International Shipping returns will be processed on your behalf.
When a buyer opens a return, we'll refund your buyer and you'll keep the sale. When the return is received at the eBay International Shipping inspection hub, it will be inspected to make sure it's in the same condition. We'll then issue the refund to the buyer's original payment method, usually within 5 to 7 business days of the item being received at the hub. Returned items and items that couldn't be delivered to the buyer may not be returned to you.
If you receive negative or neutral feedback related to item handling during international shipping, we'll remove it.

From that, I think the buyer has to open a return, and eBay will supposedly handle it from there. However, it says the "return[ed]" item has to be received by the hub (it was but is mia now). So, since the seller didn't return it, but the Canadian post office did the returning, hopefully it'll still work out the way it's supposed to.

·2 years agoWhen items are sent back to an EIS shipping hub as undeliverable, from what I understand it becomes eBay’s property they will either sell it or dispose of it.
They most likely will refund the buyer if the buyer opens a case.

OP2 years agoThank you for your response. I did recommend to the buyer that they open a case with ebay. It's just a bummer that the package disappeared.

OP2 years agoThe buyer said they attempted to open a case but were told that it was past the 30 day window.

·2 years agoWhat happens is EIS keeps the item and wholesales it on a pallet to some other selling entity. The item will NEVER find it's way back to you or the buyer.
EIS is responsible for refunding the buyer, you are not. Tell the buyer they have to deal with EIS, as the Canadian Post or USPS will also do NOTHING about it. (how the buyer contacts EIS I have no idea, but buyers can 'find' a way- they may start with opening a return, but I would not suggest telling them anything beyond..
"I sent the item to EIS in the States, and they take it from there-you'll have to contact EIS"

OP2 years agoThank you for your help. I sent the buyer a message recently updating them on what I found out on my end and told them that they should contact ebay. It's a bummer though that they keep the item, as the buyer still wants it and most likely won't be able to find a similar vintage coat.

·2 years agoI don't think that contacting ebay will accomplish anything. They need to follow ebay rules. They have not received what they ordered and paid for, so they need to file an Item Not Received claim and follow up what ebay asks them to do.

OP2 years agoJust sent a message to the buyer to file an item not received claim. Thank you
