Package forwarded, still in hometown?

I recently bought something off of EBay from a seller I trust - I have bought from them before and there were no issues; I’d even say it was a better than average experience. The package shipped relatively fast, but when it got to my hometown I received this alert from USPS:
â€Your item was forwarded to a different address at 9:06 am on September 24, 2025 in (my town). This was because of forwarding instructions or because the address or ZIP Code on the label was incorrect.“
Went to the post office, they didn’t have it and said they haven’t even seen it. Talked to the seller, they said they’d keep a look out in case it makes its way back to them. It’s been about seven days and I haven’t seen it, but maybe I am being a bit impatient. What should I do as the buyer? Should I keep waiting? File a claim? The seller doesn’t seem at fault here.

·11 months agoit could be a usps error, if you know the details you could go to the usps website and do a trace request, then normally you would get a follow up within 3 business days, but that follow up only happens about 50% of the time. so sometimes that results in nothing, flip of the coin.
the good news is you are protected by ebay, I don't like to tell people to go after the seller as you also noted the seller has been reliable thus far, so maybe just wait it out as much as possible, perhaps the seller will make it right if given the opportunity or it will show up. doesn't sound like anything nefarious.
if push comes to shove you can open a item not received case, but consider that a last resort.
