Package delivered to the wrong street address but correct city
My package was delivered to a totally different street address but in the same city. I got proof from the post office via GPS coordinates. I've reached out to the seller 3 times now, and even told them I have proof that it was delivered to the wrong address, but I keep getting the same canned response of "it was delivered successfully from our end." Um, no it wasn't!
Anyway, I filed an INR claim a few days ago, but eBay can't step in to "help" until tomorrow. I've been reading on these boards that this could be some kind of scam and that I can only repeal eBay's decision (if it's for the seller) one time, so I want to make sure I do everything I can to get a refund. What should be my next steps?

OP8 months agoJust wanted to post an update. I contacted ebay through Facebook Messenger this morning and got a reply from "Rachel" within 5 minutes. She was very helpful and issued me a refund since I had a picture of the shipping label that showed it was not addressed to me or had my street address. They are also going to be investigating the seller for potential fraud.
I'm very happy with how they handled this situation. 😊

OP8 months agoAnother update: The USPS delivery guy texted me a picture of the shipping label, and it is not my name or address.

·8 months agoYou should be able to win this with eBay, ot at least win an appeal.
What you are going to need is an official statement that the tracking was not addressed to your address. ( the address on the order).
Needs to be on official USPS letter head.
Emails or digital evidence not accepted.
Then its best to contact eBay via Facebook. So you can provide this evidence.
You inform them that you have been involved in a fake tracking scam and show them copies of your evidence.

OP8 months agoI understand they want a statement on official letterhead, but they won't accept text pictures showing that the shipping label was not addressed to me? I just want to make sure I get everything from the post office that I need.

·8 months agoId provide it as additional, its actually not something they are supposed to show or give you.
For privacy reasons typically USPS won't tell or give you the address it was sent to. Only validate that it wasn't sent to YOUR addresss.
So you want that specific document.
Also, don't ask eBay to step in on the website. That goes directly to automation that you will most likely automatically lose within 2 hours because the system validates tracking with zip code.
Ask eBay to escalate once the time frame is avaliable via the social media Facebook support.
This is important because the Facebook team has generally been real employees that can handle more complex issues.
So id Def provide all evidence, but you specifically want that statement that it wasn't addresses to you.

OP8 months agoGreat, thank you so much for this info! I will contact eBay on Facebook tomorrow, which is when eBay said they would step in to help if this issue hasn't been resolved. 🙂

OP8 months ago@eburtonlab my other post got deleted per my request, so I wanted to tag you on this one since you have been giving me some great info 🙂

·8 months agoHere is my second reply in that now-deleted duplicate thread:
The post office should be able to tell you if the name and address on the packages matches yours or not, even if they will not reveal the name for privacy reasons. If you can get documentation from the post office to corroborate "false tracking", then once you lose your "item not received" case you can contact eBay via social media direct message to pursue a "false tracking" claim.
You say the seller has 107 feedback -- how many of those ratings are from actual buyers (not from sellers or automated feedback) and how many are for selling similarly-valued items like what you bought? A user's positive feedback may not tell you much about the seller if the feedback is for buying, for selling inexpensive keychains, if the ratings are generated by eBay automatically once tracking shows delivery, or if the feedback is from years ago and the account has been hijacked since then.

OP8 months agoI did text my delivery guy and ask if he can confirm that my name and address were on the package, and I'm waiting for a reply.
I checked the feedback again. There were 14 reviews that had good feedback within the last 6 months, and they were not automated feedback. It also looks like the items bought were under $50 (mine was $58).
I did notice that the eBay user name on the page where I bought the item is not the same as the ebay seller who has been messaging me, so does that sound like the seller's account got hacked by a scammer? Also noticed that the location of this item (CA) and where it was supposedly shipped from (AL) don't match either.

·8 months agoLooks like you posted this in two places, so I'm going to copy and paste my response here from the other thread:
If you're OK with doing something questionable, you could fight fire with fire and file an Item Not As Described case.
In the return envelope that is paid for by the seller, you can include a copy of the proof that the seller defrauded you by shipping to a different address. Since you paid for an item, and received hot air, technically what you received was in fact "not as described".
If you're uncomfortable doing this, then just report them to USPS for mail fraud.

·8 months agoMore than likely, this was a scam. Unfortunately, you'll probably lose the INR.
If you lose the INR, you have 2 steps you can take:
1. File a chargeback with your credit card company/ bank.
2. Open a return for Item Not As Described. If you are asked to send something back, send them an empty envelope or a bit of trash. Because that is exactly what they sent out.
This is a common occurrence on these boards lately. The only way ebay will fix this problem is when they start tracking actual addresses and not just zip codes.
Edited to add: If this was just a mis-delivery on the part of the post office, then they should be able to get it returned to you. But if they can see the GPS coordinates, then they can see the address the label was addressed to. Their systems show much more information than we can see. So, you should ask them where the package was actually addressed to, then decide if it was a mis-delivery or if this seller is scamming.

OP8 months agoI am planning to file a chargeback if eBay doesn't resolve this.

OP8 months agoSo update on the delivery situation: The street address is totally different than mine but same city, so my husband decided to go there to see if he could locate the package. It was in a gated community, so he left his number with the guard shack to give to the owner, and the owner did call him, but they do not have the package either. So now I have no idea where it's at. Another thing is that I didn't receive the tracking info from the seller until the day after it was supposedly delivered. This whole situation smells like a scam to me!

·8 months agoIt sounds like you are doing everything right. Since you have GPS proof from post office showing it was delivered to the wrong address, that’s strong evidence for your Item Not Received claim. eBay usually sides with the buyer if the seller cant prove delivery to the correct adress. Next steps should be: keep all proof ready, wait for eBay to review the claim tomorrow, and respond fast if they ask for more info. Dont contact the seller more untill eBay decides. With your GPS proof, chances are high you will get a refund.

OP8 months agoOk, great... I will make sure to come back and post an update. Thanks for your input!

·8 months agoThis happened to me once, my package was delivered to the wrong address in the same town, but the seller's girlfriend was a US Postal Inspector and he got her involved and suddenly the post office found my package, got it back and delivered it to me.

OP8 months agoThe delivery guy was helpful as far as getting me a copy of the GPS coordinates that show that my package was delivered to the wrong address, but he was unable to get a picture of the actual shipping label and he couldn't retrieve the package. I'm hoping that the GPS coordinates will be enough for eBay to give me a refund. It's been over a week now and still don't have my package.
