NOT SOLVED FedEx shipping cost adjustments
Summary: luvmy280z and hangonphoto expressed frustration over ongoing overcharging issues with FedEx when using eBay’s shipping services. luvmy280z reported being charged incorrectly multiple times, with one instance resolved through a case. hangonphoto continued to experience similar problems and noted significant overcharges. christworks suggested opening a new discussion thread for more accurate help, but hangonphoto questioned the effectiveness of this advice. Both participants sought better solutions and updates from eBay to address these persistent issues.
devon@ebay kyle@ebay More thievery by Fedex, NOT SOLVED. This was not a "one week invoicing error". This is an ongoing, deliberate effort by Fedex being allowed by Ebay. You guys have stuck me 8 times now, the worst case being $65 overcharge. It would be nice if there was more information coming, an update of some sort maybe? Or even better, all our money back FOR REAL. In the meantime, here's a funny read with a customer service rep about this. Enjoy. (I did get my $65.66 back, only because a case was opened. But the rest nada).

·2 months agoSame thing is still happening in August of 2026, shipped an 18 lb item, received a notice for overage for a 52 lb package. Start to look into it and find this thread, at least I am not crazy. Why doesn't eBay update the calculator using the shippers dimensional formula ? I have had this happen 7 times in the last 3.5 months with cost now above $300 in overages. Painful.

·2 months ago@hangonphoto This is a 2 year old post and information in it may not be accurate. Please start a new thread with your issue and provide details about the weight and size of the package, along with the destination zip code. Thanks.

·2 months ago · EditedIts is still 100% accurate that I have been charged 7 time overages using eBays shipping calculator while buying Fed Ex labels and end up getting double charged for overages. Why are you asking me to start a new thread and provide details? Is that going to solve my issue?

·1 year agoI love how eBay continually says FedEx overcharging is a "temporary issue" that will be resolved soon. Yeah - sellers have been reporting this stuff consistently for years. And it keeps happening. For the past 3 years I've had approximately 30% of my FedEx packages overcharged with cost adjustments - YES, I understand every factor involved in packaging type, dim weight, loose contents, surcharges, eBay initial miscalculations etc. etc. Those are NOT the problem. This is literally an ERROR FedEx makes consistently and continuously over years and years. The only real solution is DON'T USE FEDEX.

OP2 years agoBottom line, people are still reporting that "credits" are not forthcoming. If we put actual weight and dimensions (rounded up) in the shipping calculator and can't get an accurate label for Fedex the SAME WAY we do for UPS and USPS, Fedex should not be an option. Why does only Fedex have this issue, why doesn't UPS or USPS have this issue? I've sold on ebay for 20 yrs and never had this problem, like the rest of you. But because Fedex shipping adjustments will continue to happen for the foreseeable future, I'm not using them anymore. I will pay more to a different carrier to avoid being forced to pay double after I ship something.

·2 years agoIf Devon or Kyle read this in response to your tag, I hope they can make sure coaching is provided to that CS rep who discussed dimensional weight and said:
That's incorrect. eBay's shipping calculator does factor in dimensional weight. As long as the seller provides correct dimensions, dim wt will be calculated when determining shipping rates.

·2 years agoeBay's shipping calculator is supposed factor in dimensional weight but at the moment it isn't at least not for FedEx. You can do the dimensional weight calculation manually and enter the dimensional weight and then do the same with the actual weight and you will see the difference in the results of the eBay shipping calculator.
I don't see this as a FedEx problem but an eBay shipping calculator programming problem.
wastingtime101
·2 years agoI'm not replicating those results @davidstarcher .
If I put in the shipping calculator:
10x10x10
10 lb
I get the rate for a 10 lb package.
-----
If I put in the shipping calculator:
14x14x14
10 lb
I get the rate for a 17 lb (dim wt) package
-----
If I put in the shipping calculator:
14x14x14
17 lb
I get the rate for a 17 lb package
carlmarxx
·2 years agoYou should be getting the 22 lb. charge for 14x14x14 and over Package Dim size .
wastingtime101
·2 years agoHow do you figure that @carlmarxx ?
14x14x14 / 166 = 16.53
rounds up to 17 lb dim wt
That applies to all FedEx services except for:
FedEx Ground Economy (where USPS handles final delivery) and the divisor is 139 and dim wt is 19.74
I was not looking at Ground Economy rates when I checked; I was looking at all other FedEx services.
carlmarxx
·2 years agoBecause I have been charged for Over size of packages above 14x14x14 by FedEx and I have been charged 28 lb on packages 18x14x7 and still charged the 28lh 22x16x8 .
davidstarcher
·2 years agoThe items I'm packing today do seem to be properly taking into account dimensional weight so perhaps it was a problem that's been solved or only appears in some circumstances. The problem does still show up when I try to create a new label for the item that they added cost adjustments to.
This is from the cost adjustment notice I was given today if I select create new shipping label:
If I put in the shipping calculator:
32x32x10
30 lbs (The carrier has reported that the weight of your package was 29.50 lbs.)
FedEx Home $80.44
If I put in the shipping calculator:
32x32x10
62 lbs (32x32x10 / 166 = 61.69 dimensional weight)
FedEx Home $95.58
Because of the discrepancy FedEx then uses the opportunity to recalculate and tack on additional handling and surcharges arriving at a total of $145.34
quanyou7
·2 years agoadditional handling is correct because second length is over 30. The mistake is the" rate discount" a negative number is missing. this mistake make fedex charge normal rate without discount. IT is roughly 2 times of discount rate.
quanyou7
·2 years agoThe error is missing The rate discount entry in cost break down. IT is blue color and IT is negative number. without it, fedex charge normal rate. The rate discount entry shows in all correct break down bill.
quanyou7
·2 years agofor large package, if longest side is over 48, or/and second longest side is over 30, there is handeling surcharge for both fedex and ups. eBay calculator includes fedex surcharge but not includes ups this surcharge.
hangonphoto
·2 months agoSo why in August of 2026 while buying my labels using eBay shipping, putting in the correct dimensions for Fed Ex I keep getting overages?
