No USPS Refund on Priority Mail
Hoping for some clarity on USPS "insurance" on Priority Mail.........I received a message from a buyer that an item I shipped via Priority Mail arrived broken - they even provided photos. I provided a full reimbursement and proceeded to the USPS website to file a claim. When I entered the tracking # I received an auto-message that the item is not eligible for refund as there were no "additional services" purchased with the shipping label. I've submitted claims for Priority Mail items in the past and received at least a partial refund. In searching the USPS website further it appears that only Priority Mail Express items are eligible for refund. Is this new? Any insights would be appreciated!

·2 years agoUSPS is a racket. If your item was lost and you had to refund the customer. You have to file two claims. One claim for the value of the item you shipped (within 60 days), and another claim for a Service Refund (within 30 days). The Service Refund gets you the cost of shipping back. But if you're like me and you think the deadlines are the same, you lose the ability to get a postage refund even on a Priority Mail if you don't file for the postage refund within 30 days.

·3 years ago@silagus.ukpamsb It sounds like you may have selected "Requesting a Refund" instead of "Filing a Claim"? You should not be restricted from opening an insurance claim for Priority Mail.
Good luck!

·3 years agoThere's $100 included insurance on Priority Mail shipments @silagus.ukpamsb so as rfmtm said, something isn't right here.
Were you trying to submit a claim for a higher value?

·3 years agoSomething not right here. While there is no refund on Priority postage or the cost of insurance, you can still a claim for the built in Priority Mail insurance.

·3 years agoMy 1st question is did you use a creditcard to make payment? If so you are in luck, gather all your supporting information from the transaction including pictures dates everything, then call the cc company and file a dispute using this reason, The damage was cause by USPS and failed to safely deliver the parcel(claim the insurance with USPS) and inform the cc company that USPS failed to refund the shipping which is their obligation that was paid for to safely deliver the parcel (show a copy of shipping cost receipt and tracking, outline and explain the case to the cc agent, They will check the date and dollar amount of the transaction and refund you back the shipping costs, USPS never responds to cc cases filed(not surprising). I ran into that long ago and everytime USPS loses or damages etc I file and recover the loss as the cc agrees that USPS failed to refund for a service that was not completed.
