Newbie needs help calculating shipping
I have several lick up triluck running boards I want to list on ebay. They are boxed in original packages about 86"x15"x12" and weigh roughly 50lbs. Just plugging that info into fed ex or ups means a huge difference in shipping cost depending if it goes to a business, residential, cross country or one state over. Any advise on how to setup listing or finding a flat rate shipping system would be appreciated.

·2 years agoAlso consider Amtrack Shipping by train. Years ago I shipped bikes that way . Buyer would need to pick up at station, however. But a possible option

·2 years agoList as Freight, just freight, not Flat Rate Freight.
The buyer won't be able to purchase until you get all the information you need from them. It will tell them to contact the seller.
Is a lift gate needed? Are you delivering to a dock that an 18 wheeler can deliver to? Does it have to come in a box truck for a small business or residential?
Is it an inside delivery?
After you figure out what extras are needed and which carrier, let the buyer know the cost. If the buyer agrees, change the listing to flat rate freight with the cost in the listing and the buyer can purchase and pay.
Don't rule out using a freight carrier with shipment on a pallet.

·2 years agoThere would be no optimal flat rate shipping for those. Use calculated shipping, they will cost to ship what they cost to different locations. Plus, you might be looking at the cost if buying the label direct from UPS or FedEX. I don't think eBay shipping makes a difference whether home or business, but labels direct from UPS and FedEx do.
Local pick up is best. I've said many times, we are all in the shipping business, you can have all the buyers in the world, but if you cant get it from point A to point B, what's the point of selling it?
As a note...flat shipping does work well if you have a lot of one item to sell so the cost kinda evens out over time, assuming you price it right...or if you are in the middle of the country. But if you are on a coast with just a few items, you are taking a risk with flat rate.

·2 years agoProbably be better selling them local, then trying to ship.
They would be expensive to ship and if buyer files an INAD, you would have to pay to have them returned.

·2 years agoJeez... my kneejerk reaction is that they're just too big to ship. Sit tight for posters with actual experience. Good luck.
