New one for me. EIS(Old GSP) Customs/Tax/Duty - USA to Spain
Had a customer from Spain stated to cancel transaction since EIS (Old GSP) did not charge the buyer Customs/Tax/Duty to the order nor did it show on his receipt. Anyone hear about this before? It was a $600 sale so I am just trying to get to the bottom of it. Also same customer used EIS on a previous order with me and Spain customs seized it since customs tax and duty were not paid. I never knew anything about the situation since EIS handled it.

I suspect that your buyer was complaining because there was no Tax Invoice link available on the order details page.
That would have been the case because the price was above the €150 threshold; below that amount eBay is required to collect and remit tax through the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS), and they add a link to the VAT (Value Added) Tax Invoice on the order details page for customers in the EU.
Above €150, eBay is not required by law to collect the VAT, but with eIS, they do collect VAT and import charges even for higher valued purchases, as a courtesy for the buyer. However, with eIS, there is a clause in the terms and conditions saying that eIS is only to be used for personal purchases, not for commercial (resale) purposes. Because of that, the tax invoice is only available if the VAT is processed through/ IOSS, or only for purchases below €150.
For a personal purchase, the buyer would have no need for a tax invoice. That would only be needed if they were planning to resell it, because they need to be able to claim the VAT they paid on the purchase when they resell it. Without the tax receipt, they can't deduct the VAT they paid.
For more explanation, here's a link to the thread where I figured out what the Tax invoice was for, on purchase orders for EU and UK buyers, and why there wasn't a tax invoice for eIS purchases over the €150 threshold.

For some reason, when the duty/import charges are deferred, the shipping is almost always a lot more (as it was here), so buyers almost always choose to prepay. On your most recent sale, the buyer DID prepay the duty and import charges:
(the $1 difference is probably because the exchange rate changed a bit)

OP8 months agoI completely agree this is what happened and he is blaming it on ebay.

·8 months agoThere is an excellent chance that the reason the customer contacted you was because Ebay told them that they had to pay the fees and they did not.
This is not your problem and do not make it your problem.

·8 months agoCustomers CHOOSE whether to pay 'up front' or 'later'.
That customer chose wrong.
Tell customer to contact EIS since 'international sales and shipments' are handed by them.
Once you ship to EIS Hub, and it shows 'delivered'- you are done.
