I just sold an item and my funds are held until AFTER buyer receives it? Isn't this ripe for scams? I also realized too late shipping for a $200+ item was 4.44 (that's all buyer paid) and is only insured for $100. So I ended up upgrading to Priority and upped the insurance and now I am paying another $16.69 OUT OF MY MONEY because I haven't been paid yet.
I don't remember eBay doing it this way years ago (its been awhile since I was a regular seller). I got paid, THEN I shipped.
I am trying to see where I can change the shipping on my other items, but I don't see it.

Future note for you in this instance:
Make sure you are charging the retail rate for your items, not the discounted rate. That helps a bit if there is an offset.
As for the increased cost, you should always plan how you will be shipping the item before its even listed and make sure the price its sold for will include that cost, especially for things like insurance or signature requests.
I offer free shipping on some items, and others have calculated shipping. For the free, I bake that cost into the listed price of the item. For those with calculated cost, I use the exact weight and dimensions whenever possible and I charge the retail (at the counter) price for the shipping.
As for the payment portion. If you have funds held (which is normal in some cases) yes it will draw on your funding source to cover the shipping. But that will be returned as part of your currently held funds once they get released. You won't be paying twice for the shipping at least.
But know how you will ship, make sure you research the pricing of the options prior to your listing to avoid these mistakes in the future.
Switch it back when you purchase your next label. I've seen it happen to others and I've seen it happen to my own accounts. Very frustrating. Always check payment method before clicking the purchase button.
Adding to this: there are some services that can only be paid with eBay Funds - not with PayPal - so if you buy a UPS or FedEx label the system will default to eBay Funds. If you then buy USPS labels after that, it will stay on the last used payment method eBay Funds, so you have to switch it back.
