My item shows Customs clearance delay but neither me or Seller has no idea

Hi there,

I bought a laptop from US. Item is over 1000AUD and Tax was included/paid during check out (item shipped part by Ebay International Shipping method).

Now, item tracking shows Customs clearance delay. It's been over a week now. I don't know if it's due to Tax or incomplete docs from sellter, etc.

I did some researches and I should be contacted or receive a letter if I should provide additional tax or documents but I haven't received any. I contacted Seller and they haven't got anything either.

So questions are;

1) What should I do next to get the item?

2) If nothing happend, then what next? Will item be returned automatically? Would I get a full refund?

Thanks all.

Just to update.

1) I called custom but there is no info can be provided as I haven't received any First Notice yet (a letter I should receive from Aus Post for me to take action further).

2) I contacted the Courier provide in case the custom has feedbacked to them (just in case some paper works were missing) but they said nothing came through.

The item (from tracker) was stuck in custom since 2nd May i.e. 2 weeks. However it seems it could take a bit longer so I guess I'll have to wait and see a bit longer.

However if eventually nothing has happened, is there anything I could do? Or should I just lodge a resolution via Ebay support?

To add... I've had several shipments over the years held by customs ( with notification actually stating shipment on hold in tracking) for WEEKS, only to have the package arrive without any notice attached, no sign of examination, or any other indication as to why they were held back.

Customs is pretty much the law. They don't have to tell you anything - and they usually don't.

Even when all is in order ( duties paid, correct declaration papers, invoicing) it can still take one, two, three weeks for items to clear customs.

Also, it can take a while for status to be updated, quite often a shipment can have cleared customs and is sitting in limbo at a sorting center.

Unless you or the seller receive a notification of a problem, there isn't much to be done but wait. I've rarely heard of someone contacting a customs bureau in ANY country and getting a straight answer.

I have had packages enter USA from Macao and sit at customs for a week without any notification. I eventually get them. Still too early to say what is happening. And Ebay International Shipping method...the old system or new system? New system might just be a delay.

Have you contacted your customs office?

They would be the ones that know whats going on.
