Missing USPS shipment, I cannot file a USPS claim because ebay provided label / account
I have a Missing USPS shipment and tracking shows it hung up now for 30 days, I cannot file a usps claim because ebay provided label and USPS needs the account number and info for claim only ebay has. Catch 22. Why is there no info in ebay community for this subject. Just misinformation spreaders and Bots.

OP2 years agoHi Monica, I just completed all the steps and your comment about being easy shows you have NOT done this process OR should comment. Ty it you will find Ebay makes all of this even more very difficult. You will need to complete a very lengthy and complicated process that at the very end requires a proof of value.. Good luck with that one. FACTS - USPS is not for shipping anything of value. THAT IS THE LESSON!!!! I doubt if all the efforts for a claim will ever result in payment.

But since you know so much I'm sure you will figure it out.

·2 years agoProof of value is a screenshot of the eBay order details page showing the amount the item, buyer address, tracking, and amount buyer paid. If you're overwhelmed by the process, I suggest asking a friend or family member for assistance.
I've filed several USPS insurance claims without issue. You basically fill out a form and upload a screenshot of the order details. It's a lost package claim which is less work than a damaged item claim.

·2 years agoCan you clarify if it's USPS or UPS? Asking because USPS does not need the account number.
If it's UPS, follow the instructions on this page:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipcover/shipping-insurance-shipcover?id=4643#section3
And, more specifically, this handy reference guide:
https://ir.ebaystatic.com/pictures/sc/pdf/UPS_Claims_Process_for_eBay_Sellers_2022.pdf
You have to follow that specific process for UPS when the label was purchased through eBay. If you still need the account number, eBay's UPS account number is the 6 digits following the 1Z of the tracking number.
As mentioned, if it's USPS then you do not need an account number and can file a claim here:
https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm

OP2 years agoyou have not tried to file a claim with USPS, the first thing they require is the account number used for purchase. Try it and next time you reply give the link to USPS where they don't ask for account. thanks for ....??

thanks for....?
The poster that is trying to help you is arguably the most educated member of these forums regarding shipping that frequents these boards.
@wastingtime101 is correct...you do not need THE account number that produced the label....(ANYONE can produce a label), you need to register (an account) for yourself...
easy-peasy
make up a username/password, and answer a few questions, and you have an account!
continue to file your claim....
