Lightweight Packages
Summary: youwholindylou raised concerns about high shipping fees for lightweight packages impacting profits when offering free shipping. krazzykats and thriftyfiftyfifty expressed similar experiences, noting recent changes that have increased costs. ryry-jj suggested adjusting pricing strategies to account for the higher shipping costs, such as using calculated shipping or adding handling charges. tobaccocardyahoo recommended stopping free delivery and using fixed price shipping to balance costs. janet9988 mentioned keeping up with relevant announcements for further explanation.
Anyone else having extremely high shipping fees for 1-4oz packages? Almost $8 to send a less than 1oz package from Virginia to Kansas. I've had this happen numerous times lately. Sure cuts into any profit when you ship lightweight items for free. Obviously, one can change the selling price or change to calculated shipping. I have also taken a few that are flat enough (and used a paper envelope) to the post office and purchased First Class postage along with added insurance which gives you a tracking number, then manually enter the tracking number. Price comes out much less than Ground Advantage.

·3 weeks agoStop offering free delivery, The current rural delivery surcharges make anything other than calculated shipping charges a crap shoot for items which are not within your high volume weights,
Consider fixed price shipping for weights which are common in your sales and allow your nearby buyers to subsidize your distant and rural buyers. Set the rates so that you break even on shipping each month.

·3 weeks agoIt kinda is what it is today. Sell with flat rate or add a handling charge to the order, or raise the price of the item. Personally, I'd use calculated. We all know nothing was ever free, but with the postage increases, item's selling prices have to go up. When wages, rent or insurance goes up, prices go up, too. Don't rely on the false sense, "I'll just sell more by remaining cheaper to cover the higher cost"...that belief is trouble

·3 weeks agoYes, I do. I sell sewing patterns, and shipping 1–8 oz can cost $8.40 to send coast to coast, and around $6.00 for closer destinations.
