Just started using UPS as shipping option rather than Fedex. Why it is showing HIGH prices??
It is a turn-off to potential buyers. I am getting bombarded with emails asking why my shipping is so crazy high. They like the item, want to buy it but shipping is killer. I've been selling for 27 yrs on eBay and know how to put in the proper weight and spec's when listing. What's up? I feel it is the calculator or I've been using FedEx so long that I'm not in tune with any other company maybe? USPS is fine, it is showing cheaper to use them on a 14 lb package even and I am not using flat rate boxes. The cut off is normally 8/9 lbs, move off of USPS and go with another method of mailing. Is anyone experiencing high UPS pricing showing on the front end, prior to purchasing or check-out.)

USPS Ground Advantage $11.37
UPS Ground $8.29
FedEx Home Delivery $13.68
Those are currently the only three options I'll use.

·5 months agoI would advise to change from UPS to USPS because yes it is cheaper. UPS is more expensive.

Make sure you are offering the discount (like you probably are for USPS)
I say that because this is an estimate for the cool star trek 3 - D Chess Set (I assume it can be disassembled, but if not I am assuming
16 X 16 X 16 and 3 lbs (per your description) to my zip code your listing quotes 81.78 UPS...this estimate is quite different....
edit: I see @caldreamer mentioned the same thing....

·5 months agoGo to SITE PREFERENCES, SHIPPING PREFERENCES (select EDIT) and make sure that UPS is set to allow customer to pay "EBAY discounted rate". Otherwise, customer who use UPS will have to pay the full "retail rate".

·5 months ago@smmatt You'll now see even better pricing for buyers when you use USPS also. The rate increase they did a few months ago resulted in the biggest gap between commercial and retail that I've ever seen, in some of the tiers anyway. Up to that point I always had my setting on 'retail' for the buyer, considering the rather small savings to me as 'packing materials.' But as soon as that rate hike hit, my sales stopped and I realized what outrageous shipping prices my listings were showing. So I switched my setting to give buyers the discount rate plus 70 cents handling fee, and my sales came back.

·5 months agoI thought it was universally known that UPS is the priciest. As you say yourself, USPS is cheaper even for heavier items, so why not just use them?

OP5 months agoYes I will be using USPS a lot more now I guess, but I'm having to go back and convert all my older listings to get away from UPS and their extreme costs - Ugh! How time-consuming. I was just wondering if other sellers are having a issue seeing such high quotes. Thanks

·5 months agoIt's pretty close to even here on outgoing packages. With the cheapest (day in day out) "leaning" toward UPS.
Today it was 3 UPS and 2 FedEx. Which tends to be the norm. UPS usually gets one or two more than FedEx.
BUT, when you get to really big packages? FedEx prices aren't even within reality. UPS prices destroy FedEx pricing on Really Big stuff.

·5 months agoI generally limit UPS or FedEx to packages,over 8 to 9 pounds. Everything else goes USPS. UPS for everything is not cost effective as you have found out

·5 months agoYea, UPS jacked their rates back in Dec., I ship fishing rods and notice their ground saver is actually higher then regular ground.
