Just had a Refund for overpaying shipping

Just noticed a refund for overpaying on shipping from the USPS. I had noticed one a few months back and also one from FedEx
My usual process is to always round up to the next inch dimension wise and add an ounce or two to the weight. I am guessing this might be one of the times were my weight round up took me over the even pound mark. When I get something that weighs x pound and 15 oz, I always go to the next pound as I am unsure if my label will push me over the limit.
Guess I would rather see a refund then get hit with a charge.

·2 months agoWeight is always rounded up price-wise. 1.1 pounds will ship at the 2LB rate, it doesn't matter if you put in 1.1 pounds, 1.5 pounds, 1.9 pounds. You can simply enter 2.0 pounds and the rate is the same. No need to overthink it.
I will mention though that USPS does have a built-in tolerance. That 1.1 pound package can go at the 1 pound rate as .1 is within their tolerance. That same 1.1 pound package, if shipped UPS or FedEx, must be rounded up as they do not have a built-in tolerance.
Dimensions for USPS round down for anything under the 1/2 inch, and round up for anything over the 1/2 inch. USPS does have a small dimension tolerance as well. FedEX and UPS do not have any dimension tolerances and must always be rounded up to the nearest whole inch. For FedEx and UPS I normally go an extra inch on one side to give me protection should the side of a box bulge out or a piece of tape come loose during transit.

·2 months agoOne of the more recent ones I got said a 4 lb 5 oz package weighed 4 oz. The box alone weighed more than that, but who am I to argue?
On the weight side, if it weighs even just 1lb 1oz, you can put 2lbs in for the shipping label and it will be the same cost as putting 1lb 1oz, and then you have leeway of it being 1 or 2 oz off for whatever reason.
