Items Marked as Shipped by eBay When Item Not Actually Shipped......
eBay needs to stop marking items as Shipped before the carrier actually receives the shipment. Just creating a shipment and supplying a tracking number by a seller, bogus or not, to a buyer is all it takes for eBay to mark the item as shipped and this is nonsense. Sellers take advantage of this all to often. This needs to change so that actual receipt by a carrier as evidenced by checking the tracking number before item is accurately reported "as shipped".

·2 years agoHow does this change things with your purchase? Your estimated delivery date is the one that is important and can be used if your item never arrives. When the seller printed the label (maybe on Saturday/Sunday to preempt being swamped on Monday morning, or to avoid power issues with an upcoming storm, or to just feel caught up on chores) doesn't change your protections.

·2 years agoActually- the way THIS site works and ALL other sites- ONCE a seller has 'paid for a label' to 'get a tracking number'.....
THAT is the START of the Shipping Process.
Therefore, your item has 'shipped'. Been this way for decades.

·2 years agoThis is standard practice for just about every online store out there. I reordered some of my favorite coffee from a small regional coffee store the other day and got the email notice with the tracking number saying that my order had shipped. It wasn't actually picked up by UPS until the next day.

·2 years agoBTW, sellers aren't able to "take advantage of this" since their tracking number will still have to show movement within their handling time.
A seller with a 4 day handling can sell and item and print a label on Sunday and not drop the package until Wednesday and they are within their handling time.

·2 years agoIt's been discussed ad nauseum that a more appropriate message would be along the lines of "a shipping label has been created." But clearly, ebay hasn't made the change and probably won't be doing it.
But most people who've been on ebay for more than an hour can understand that the item hasn't been "shipped" in the 30 seconds since payment. (I would think that after 23 years, you'd be aware of that, @a911pro .)
And even if the buyer didn't understand that the creation of a label and tracking number doesn't mean actual shipment, they can go to USPS tracking, paste the number and will get a message that the label has been created but may not have been shipped yet.
Sheesh, IMO there are enough real concerns for ebay to "fix," so sweating over this one isn't worth it!

Notice the future tense. Then I get a follow up email acknowledging receipt when it is scanned by the carrier.

OP2 years agoNot so. I get this all the time: Order shipped Order date:Jan 29, 2024 When in fact it was not received by the carrier until 2/1.

Most sellers on eBay are part time sellers and don't ship out the same day an order is received. I have a regular job like most eBay sellers and don't pack orders until the evenings and I drop them in the mail box until my way home from work which means after 5:00 pm on most days. So if someone places an order on Jan 31st in the evening I wont pack it until evening of Feb 1st and not drop off until February 2nd. I don't ship out anything on the weekends.
I think that is pretty fast. People are spoiled by Amazon these days.
