Item shipped by USPS to buyer - No scans in 7 days???
So, I sold a phone on Jan 9th. The buyer requested USPS even though I hate them and I usually drop off packages at UPS. Fine, so per USPS regulations, this is a used phone worth $250 and can only be shipped by "Ground Advantage" and needed to include a Hazmat "Surface Only Transportation" label since it contains a battery inside.
So... the tracking as of January 15th (today) STILL shows no updates. It's stuck at:
"Pre-Shipment
Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item"
I've been in contact with my buyer about this, and they seem patient but...wth? I also went to my local PO where I handed it to someone and they were of no help, basically just saying "it was shipped you just have to wait" (lol). Ok sure? how long is my buyer supposed to wait for this package?
To add insult to injury, filling a "Missing Item" Request on the USPS website offers no help as well since the USPS website is designed to emulate the horrible experience of the USPS themselves, and gives me this error JUST as i'm about to submit my claim:
"Error: 400 - Invalid Search Form - This search falls outside the acceptable time limit to file a missing-mail search."
ok? it's been 7 days and no scan whatsoever? I have "Text and email" updates set to on... no updates. I went to the official USPS x/Twitter and asked their account there, by DM and basically was told the same thing by my local post office.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does any one have...any suggestions?

·8 months agoI know this is frustrating, but at this point, all you can do is wait.
I would just wait as long as possible, and if the buyer gets upset or asks for a refund, ask them to open an INR. There is a new ebay policy where if an item is delivered after you refunded through an INR, ebay will reimburse you.
As you said, your local post office is usually good, so it'll probably show up in the system soon. In the future, I'd recommend waiting in line to get a package scanned in and get a receipt if possible (especially on an expensive item).

·8 months agoYou didn't have it scanned when you dropped it off?
Without that acceptance scan, you have no proof you shipped it.

OP8 months agounfortunately when I arrived at the PO there was no one there. I realize this was my problem but also, my USPS here is usually good with packages and all of my packages so far have gotten to their destinations when I used them.

·8 months agoGood news that all your packages so far have gotten t their destinations.
Unfortunately, since this package was apparently not scanned, that record is about to be broken, since you have no proof of sending it.
What was the last estimated delivery date for this item?
mrsmoondust
OP8 months agoThe "estimated delivery date" provided by eBay is "January 13-January 23rd".
Also, why can I not file a missing mail request on the USPS website?

·8 months agoUnless you have a scanned tracking #, I don't think there is a way for USPS to identify your package well enough to track it. They would essentially have to look for the package using the buyer's name & address and you can see what a time consuming effort that would be so it just is not done.

·8 months agoBecause it was never scanned showing that USPS took possession of the package.

OP8 months agoWTH did USPS do with it, send it into another dimension 😂😂

·8 months agoIf the last EDD is January 23rd in your listing, then your buyer cannot open an item not received case til January 24th. Hopefully, it will show up by then.
And, to address your later remark, no, you are not quite screwed yet in this case.

OP8 months agoOk, so the tracking just updated. Took them 7 whole days to scan it and it's still in my locality lol.
Oh well. Estimated delivery date shows Jan 22.
