Item I sold arrived damaged.
I shipped a guitar hero guitar and game to a buyer. The guitar arrived broken. I am of course willing to issue them a full refund and they are willing to ship it back to me. I don’t have returns turned on. I know they can still initiate a return for a damaged item. I plan on filing an insurance claim with usps but I don’t know this process and I’m afraid if they send it back it will make my claim invalid. The game and dongle are not damaged. I’m not sure if it’s better to just issue the refund and not have them send it back or have them send it all back so I can at least resell the game and dongle if my claim is denied.

·1 year agoI've dealt with two insurance claims this year, one for FedEx and one for USPS. I had not had an insurance claim prior to these, so when the FedEx one came along, I reached out to eBay to find out if I should have the buyer send it back. The rep, who was very helpful, didn't hesitate to tell me yes, get it back and advised me to start the claim process while I waited for it to get back. They said that a lot of the carriers now want the item back so they can take it and sell it off themselves to recoup some of their money.
I followed what the rep told me, and I advised the buyer to open a return and send it back. Before the buyer even got around to returning it, I already had my check from FedEx.
The USPS claim was more recent. I told buyer to send the item back and I proceeded to file the insurance claim with USPS. The check from USPS showed up the same day I got the item back.
For both claims, I attached multiple photos showing the damaged package and the damaged item. Both claims were less than $100. Your outcome may be different if you do not provide sufficient photos of the package and item damage and/or if your claim is over $100. Neither FedEx nor USPS ever contacted me about wanting the item or wanting me to bring it in for inspection.

OP1 year agoThank you very much for this answer. I’ve asked the buyer to initiate a return and to send me pictures of the damage.

·1 year agoI'd have it returned an resell what you can.
The chance of them paying an insurance claim would be pretty slim.
