Item “return to sender†after buyer filed payment dispute
I shipped an item that was purchased. the buyer then filed a payment dispute saying they did not recognize the charge. I challenged the dispute and am awaiting a decision. The item then shows up at my house and says return to sender on it. I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?

·2 years agoThere's nothing to do but wait for the dispute outcome. When you challenged the dispute, did tracking show a delivery attempt to the buyer and did eBay display a message on the dispute that said you were covered by seller protections?

·2 years agoBecause they were able to choose to contest or not, I'd say they aren't protected.
My question is, a RTS does void MBG with delivery attempt, but does that apply to payment disputes?

I'm going to guess they aren't protected and will be on the hook for $20 dispute fee and loss of eBay fees.
If someone dispites a chargeback they need to make sure successful delivery occured before contesting.

OP2 years agoOn the tracking info it said “out for delivery†then it said “insufficient addressâ€. Wasn’t aware of a dispute fee. Still pretty new to selling. Thanks for the info I’ll keep that in mind next time.

·2 years agoIt's unfortunate the dispute fee only apply if you contest and lose.

·2 years agoI think that's most likely. It comes down to what the buyer's financial institution decides. It's too bad the buyer did not file the claim on eBay first. The buyer would have lost the eBay claim, but the seller would have been protected on the payment dispute if they won an eBay claim before the dispute was filed for the same reason.
