Is there a reason why a buyer would get to pick the shipping service if I'm paying?
If I'm paying for shipping, why would a buyer ever get to pick the service (beit fedex, ups, or usps)? Is that just a preference, not requirement?

·8 months agoYou give the options in your listing when you built it.
The buyer can only choose from the options that you give.

·8 months agoI offer generic service and my buyers pay for shipping. (Side Note: Buyers should always be giving you the money to cover shipping costs, either through a line item charge or built into the item price.)
I look at the big picture. The amount of money I save doing things this way (re: the amount of money I net off shipping), more than pays for any issues a buyer might have with a certain carrier. Truthfully, people will disagree, but FedEx is not a bad service simply because it is FedEx. Neither is UPS or USPS for that matter.
You are always going to have isolated cases where there is a lazy employee or lazy supervisor that does not correct issues. Plus, people are human and will make mistakes. I don't stress about that stuff.
I'm going to ship whichever method is cheaper. Over time the money I make adds up and pays for fees, supplies, and, if needed, any refunds due to an INR. I've never had an INR I had to refund because, in due time, people get their packages. The one time I did refund an INR was when I had started under this account and I wanted to ensure the buyer did not leave negative feedback because this account had not built up much positive at that point. It was like $10, so it wasn't a big deal. The buyer got their package two days later.

·8 months agoBecause many buyers have issues with some shipping services and will not buy from sellers who use them.
I avoid all shipments via FEDEX Ground unless there is no source which uses any other service.
As a seller, you are at far greater risk of a problem with the shipment if you use a service which the buyer knows to be inferior in his area.
The buyer is usually paying for the cost of shipping whether it is separately itemized or not, so you are making a decision which can impact whether you or your competition will make the sale.
I see you are using ESE on one of your listings. Some buyers will be pleased by the cost, others will be put off by the use of an inferior service, providing them with an option could work in your favor.

·8 months agoThe buyer gets to pick from whatever options you choose to offer. Even if you're offering free shipping, you can offer a choice of services if you choose, since some buyers might prefer one over another, or as @wastingtime101 said, you can offer a generic service and not specify the carrier or service. Buyers can never select a shipping service you didn't include when you listed the item, though.

·8 months agoYou select what shipping service to advertise in the listing and need to ship using that service. If you want the freedom to ship with any service while offering free shipping, then you need to set up your listing with an unspecified service.
If you want to be able to use UPS Ground Saver or FedEx Ground Economy then scroll to the list of economy services and choose the generic "Economy Shipping." That way you can ship using any service you want - economy or better.

·8 months agoSome people don't like USPS.
Some people don't like Fed Ex or UPS.
Fed Ex and UPS don't deliver to PO boxes.
Some people feel that Fed Ex and UPS handle large packages better.
Although I don't always believe that.
Although many may disagree with me I only provide one option.
It is only a requirement that you provide a shipping method or a pick up.
