Interstate 95 Philadelphia shut down
Has anyone seen any info from EBay regarding the collapse of I-95 in Philadelphia? It will cause delays in shipping.

·3 years agoThis is the type of issue where the response from eBay is typically in the form of longer estimated delivery dates for packages traveling through impacted areas (adjusted after various carriers confirm their impact to eBay), along with a message at the top of the tracking pop-up indicating there could be delays. Announcement is not as likely.

·3 years agoWhy would Ebay announce that?
The bridge down the road from my house was closed for a year to be completely replaced. The mail still got through, Fedex still got through, UPS still got through. All they had to do was go an alternate route. It was a pain in the butt because it added five miles to the trip, but I could still go anywhere I needed to go.
The carriers will re-route the packages away from that area to different hubs and deliver as normal from there. I seriously doubt there will be any noticeable delays.

·3 years agoDid that bridge carry 160,000 cars per day?
As with other disasters (weather, etc.), eBay will make an announcement when they have something to say, which in this case will have to wait to see the actual effects on package delivery times.

Seriously though, unless there are just no routes around that area for traffic to go I don't think it would make much of a difference as far as mail delivery.
I'm not familiar with the area at all, but I am assuming there are other highways that could be used. I couldn't see it adding more than a day to delivery times. This is a major bridge on a major interstate in a major city, not a county bridge on a country road in Podunk MS like mine.
I'm quite sure all the major carriers and traffic engineers in those areas have had plans in place to cover things like this - at least they should, that's part of their job.

OP3 years agoThank you. I guess some - do not understand what that highway really connects. Main thoroughfare from Boston down to DC. Yes a section, but a major issue. Also why the White House was one of the first calls to notify. Hopefully back up soon. Side streets can’t take large 18 wheelers.
I appreciate your comment.

OP3 years agoWell since it is the major corridor in the NE, it may impact a bit differently than some places, maybe not others.

·3 years agoI see no great issue. Minimal delays.
The mail trucks are not going to sit there waiting for months while the repairs are being done.

·3 years agoI don't know about PA, but in FL if there's a detour it flashes on an overhead board letting the driver know the road is closed. They force you off on an exit before you get to it, and reroute you to the next ramp to get back on I-95.

·3 years agoSame story as in Philadelphia, but on a much larger scale. The bridge will be completely shut down for months, and that part of I-95 is so heavily traveled, the backups and delays will be epic.
