International shipping NOT EIS. Says I need a VAT number & account to ship to EU countries. ???
Says I need a VAT number & account to ship to EU countries. I am very confused. I do not want to EIS shipping. I went into the site where I am supposed to sign up for VAT number & something else but I became very confused ..Has anyone else done this if so I could sure use some guidance.

·3 years agoAnybody selling to EU, UK and Australia, at this time, needs their VAT tax number. Because you sell thru the intermediary, i.e. ebay, ebay has registered for the VAT Tax ID number. If you sell thru ebay's program, ebay should take care of filling out the customs forms including the VAT numbers, commodity codes etc.
If you want to sell internationally, but use other label providers (like pirateship) you will use these ebay VAT tax numbers:

AUSTRALIA ABN# 64652016681
UK GB365608576
Regarding the packaging rules for France and Germany. This is also ebay' responsibility, to aplly and get these account numbers.
I don' t use ebay's program and I did acquire the LUCID number for Germany (it is quite easy). I don't have one for France, but I have been mailing to France without that number without any problem. I think they are mostly concerned with corporate shipments. After studying the issue, I suggest that when you mail to these two countries, don' t use any packaging that has any corporate logo on the (e.g. avoid using ebay enveloeps etc). Again, the above applies if you want to mail internationally, but not via ebay.

I don't think that is true, especially if the seller is shipping directly and not going through an ebay shipping program.

·3 years agoWho says you need a VAT number and account to ship to EU countries? If you are in the US you don't need that as eBay collects VAT, not you. eBay should have provided their VAT number which you need to include on the label.
If you are shipping to Germany or France they do have specific packaging rules that require you to have an account number for that. Unless you sell a lot to those two countries you might want to block them. I'm not sure where the information for France is but here is some info about the German program.
