International Shipping
Hi, I recently shipped a childs toy International Shipping to Brazil.
The item was not delivered because it was a Restricted/Prohibited Item.
It was returned to me by the delivery service. I refunded the customer the purchase price.
Can I recover the $20.00 for the International Shipping Label?
I would like to refund the shipping cost as well.

·1 year agoOR Brazilian custom clearance workers have been on strike since Nov 2024. And are still on strike. Other than humanitarian goods nothing is moving.

·1 year agoShipping to Brazil is a bad idea because the OP's experience is common. Brazil has restrictions on many items which no other countries restrict.
If one is so desperate that they want to include Brazil as a destination, they should be shipping using EIS, where this issue becomes Ebay's problem. Then they will only have to deal with messages from buyers in Brazil asking why they cannot buy the item.

·1 year agoSo we have "buyer's fault" & "seller's fault" as far as assigning blame for selling an item on a platform that is so controlled by programming and ai that every aspect has no human component except for the buyer and the seller, BUT all that programming and ai will allow an item to be sold to someone in a country where it's prohibited?
I call bull poo. The blame is on eBay for allowing the sale and the shipping should be refunded to whomever paid it. Period.
Ai prevents listing recalled items. Ai prevents listing legally prohibited items in the seller's country. Programs prevent listings from being posted if a human forgot to add certain info. Ai will opt sellers into things that they never knew about or weren't interested in. Programs generate reports of all types and even provide info for researching sold items. Ai manipulates search results and views based on pay-to-play.
But all knowing ai and the countless other programs don't know, or have the ability to flag country-based prohibited purchases BEFORE the transaction takes place? Bull!
Usually there's a financial incentive whenever eBay doesn't do something or allows things that hurt sellers/buyers. I'm not sure what it is in this instance, but follow the money and I'm sure the answer can be found.

·1 year agoI think sellers have some responsibility to make sure they give enough info so a buyer can determine if the item can be sold to their country. If a new toy, take good pictures of the safety standards, usually on the back of a package. Take pictures of the warnings, the ages recommendation, any choking hazards. Always take pictures of all six sides of every toy item so buyers can see everything, as though they are looking at it in their "hand".
Newer toys need the CE to sell to Europe. A buyer needs to see that to make an informed purchase. With used toys, state a disclaimer that the toys may not be available to ship to your country, buyer beware, restrictions may apply. PFAS free is now an issue, as well as the materials used in packing. Even doing all this, some buyers still wont know, so never be surprised when you have returns
As far as shipping goes, that can't be refunded in these cases

·1 year agoThere is no way to recover the cost of the shipping label but there is also no need to refund that amount to the buyer. It is the buyer's responsibility to know the laws of their country and what is restricted entry in that country.

·1 year agoBuyer's responsibility to know? Where is that 'codified'? If it's available on ebay's Brazil site, than the potential buyer should rightfully assume that it is allowed to enter the country. The responsibility is ebay's in the first place, not to allow prohibited items to be sold on their site, then the seller's, because he/she is selling something that is prohibited to enter the country. The buyer should be the last one and the only reason being that he/she would avoid disappointment or hassles but should not bear any financial loss do to his/her decision to buy an item on ebay's Brazil site.
