Inaccurate shipping chargers
Summary: duanebeckershobud shared their experience of being charged extra for shipping on eBay despite entering accurate package dimensions and weight. They explained this occurred on two recent sales and resulted in financial loss. Other participants, such as eoma689485 and krazzykats, provided advice on accounting for dimensional weight and rounding up to avoid similar charges. stainlessenginecovers and kensgiftshop inquired about the carrier and shipping method used, while janet9988 clarified that shipping costs depend on package size and weight rather than item value.
I do not sell that much on ebay so I am not knowledgeable especially on current polices of eBay. I have sold two items on ebay in the last month, both times after entering the dimensions of the ship box and weight (I have a quality scale), ebay seems to have set the ship charge automatically. After packages were shipped, I ended up being charged by ebay for extra shipping on both items I sold. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
In both cases, I am now at a loss for selling the two items.

I think the other posters have done a sufficient job explaining this topic.

·3 months agoI round up all my weights and sizes—if it’s 5 oz, I round up to 8 oz; if it’s 9 oz, I round up to 12 oz; and if it’s 13 oz, I round up to 15 oz. I use 12x12x12 as a standard measurement for almost everything, since size rarely seems to change the price much if smaller than that.

OP3 months agoI used usps both times, and first charge was $4.34 and last charge was $ 2.21. Not much, but both items were very low in value, just trying to get rid of some old stuff and a small plastic model. I shipped usps ground

·3 months ago · EditedShipping does not go on the value of the item. It goes by size and weight of the entire package.
FWI you can not request that buyers pay you via PayPal. All eBay purchases go through Ebay. You are attempting to bypass eBay for an off eBay site purchase. That is a huge policy violation.

·3 months agoBox dimensions - you have to round up, and Dimensional weight (DIM) kicks in when a package's volume exceeds 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches).
DIM weight is not the actual weight of the box - it is what the box could hold, and you are charged for whichever weight is greater.
